Israel confronts flotilla

1. It IS illegal to seize ships in international waters.

2. The alternate "route" to get supplies goes through an Israeli inspection, where anything not appearing on a list of 75 SPECIFIC items is blocked from entering Gaza. Of all the aid a place like Gaza needs, do you really believe they only need 75 different individual items?

The ship wasn't seized. In intentionally defied the orders of a blockade and was boarded for so doing.

you don't really believe that they would be denied necessities?

According to the law posted earlier there are exceptions and this flotilla apparently would fall under that category.

I went and did some research on the items allowed into Gaza and the most often used number I've seen was 81. I found it interesting that of all these different blogs and news sites I saw this from it was always copied almost word for word from the original Al Jazeera (in English) article, I would hardly consider Al J a credible source. I also saw many articles from Israeli sites that disputed these claims.

My source was Fox News, actually.

Calling the boarding of the ship illegal or the items allowed in Gaza? I'm assuming the later.

They are letting the basics in apparently, the list you are working from is probably just the day to day stuff allowed in, much more items are given them by the Israel itself. Gaza is certainly not living high on the hog but they are allowed the necessities.

I believe that the definition of "necessities" may be stricter than a freedom and liberty loving individual such as myself would like.

It's pretty miserable for the average Palestinian. Don't kid yourself.

When your leaders kill as many men women and children as possible to advance your cause I become indifferent to your ideas and concepts of freedom.

They were put in a bad situation no doubt, but let's not act like the Israelis here are any more responsible for that than any number of middle eastern countries. They can also blame themselves for some of it as well. Just as Israel can blame themselves for the part of the problem with Palestinians.

Surely you're not laying that on the Israelis?

It obviously isn't all Israel's fault. Everyone knows this is one of the more complicated issues on the planet. But the bottom line is that life utterly sucks there, there are no prospects of it getting better any time soon, and they are caught between your cousin Achmed and some crazy guy with a yamaka down the street.

There is way too much "go Israel go" on this forum for what amounts to at the least tit for tat. The Palestinians and Israelis are not synonymous with Hamas and Hezbollah, and the IDF.

Maybe if Hamas would spend less money shooting at the Israelis and more on infrastructure they would be a little bit better off.

Maybe if they weren't fenced in and occupied by a foreign force they wouldn't feel the need to spend money on things to shoot at Israel.

I am not saying the Palestinians are right and Israel wrong, I am saying this "yay Israel" crap is stupid and smacks of too much Sunday School.

Of course we're pro Israel. They are the only strategic ally we have in the region and the only nation there that doesn't have government of the clerics for the clerics that are bent on ending our way of life.

Yes, all Palestinians are terrorists and deserve to suffer.

why does it have to be Sunday School rather than our strategic relationship?

That's strange since many Christian religions think all the Jews are going to hell anyways. It's in America's best interest for Israel to succeed. That's why I support them.

Let's not oversimplify things. Israel is an artifact of WW2 and anti-semitic guilt in the West. That part of the world wasn't a vacuum, and it pissed off a lot of people over there when Palestinians (who nobody likes, really) were displaced into Egypt, Jordan, and other places by the formation of the Jewish State. This is what started the initial conflicts of sixty years ago, and those conflicts are the source of today's anger and resentment by those countries.

Many Christians also think it is their duty to stand with Israel due a few passages in the Bible. Don't blame me if a religious person is contradictory. I thought that was part of the "mystery" or whatever.

they hate the jews. let's not act like the displacement is the primary root of the anger.
