Israel vs Palestinians

Open Qs for anyone:

What's the relationship between Hamas and Palestinian people? I think Hamas is in power in Gaza since 2006 and will not allow any elections. Do Palestinians support Hamas? Are they unified behind Hamas because of ideology or fear?

Polls show around 75% support for Hamas. I do not think it’s because they fear the pollsters

Hamas has been very clear that they are against a two state solution.
A majority of Palestinians (in the aforementioned polling) also do not believe in a two state solution.

A two state solution might make people like Huff feel less complicit when paying their taxes?
If a two state solution is off the table, and the world decided after WW2 Jews needed a sovereign nation and that decision is not going to be rescinded, what does that mean for the future to both Jews and Arabs?

A two state solution will never be accepted by Hamas. The reason is they would then have no reason to be the ones leading the Palestinian people. People in power dont give power up. If somehow a two state solution did happen, their leadership would do all they could to destabilize it, so they could once again be in power.

So, if all Hamas cares about is political power, why did they rock the boat? They already hold all the power in Gaza. What on earth is the objective?

If a 2-state solution weakens Hamas, that would be a reason for Israel and the west to consider it, right? Never heard anybody make this argument. Where are you drawing this from?

Hamas 2017 charter accepts a Palestinian state with 1967 borders, BTW. People say this is not a two state solution because they still refuse to recognize Israel, but it's a two-state solution.

Follow up...would a two state solution only be manageable if outside military were brought in to police the borders? If so, would America be expected to contribute service personnel?

This poll is about 5 months old, but it shows the problem. Palestinians have no interest in the left wing dream of a 2 state solution.

I doubt it’s coincidental that other polls show 75-76% support for Hamas and this one shows a 24% support for a 2 state solution.

Since Huff has ensured us Hamas wants a 2 state solution, those two data points must simply be wrong.

Your thoughts about the disinterest from the majority of Palestinians in a two state solution?

You're such a condescending d-bag. Why do you say it like that? I sincerely ask for volfan's reasoning. I cite Hamas's charter. I make absolutely no assurances. I'm open to the idea that it's smoke and mirrors.

You don't engage in good faith.

If you ever wanted to engage in good faith, I gladly would. But I was under the impression you blocked me, so that’s why I respond to you in the manner I do.

Hamas has openly spoke about how a lot of their actions over the last few years were simply a ploy to get increased access to Israel and decreased security from Israel. Proclaiming to want a 2 state solution seems to be a part of that.

How do you reconcile the notion that the fact that support for Hamas and opposition to a 2 state solution seem to be the same political position?

It's disheartening, but I also find it very odd the pollsters don't specifically tell us how many people were undecided. It's confusing to people who assume all others are against and are now lining up the dots on their conspiracy cork board to say that matches what they think is outright Hamas support.

Lmfao that’s a conspiracy in your mind? Clearly I’m not the only one engaging in bad faith.

It’s not a conspiracy that around 75% of Palestinians support Hamas and also oppose a 2 state solution.

What would be the reasoning for the stark decline in two-state support? Because that poll shows significant majority support 10 years ago.

It might be as simple as the Palestinians would be responsible for all of their utilities and infrastructure should they become an independent state? Just spitballing.

It's worth considering. Tbh, was not on my radar as a reason.

That's the part that gets me. If Hamas cared about the Palestinian people they would be spending their money on infrastructure, rather than rockets to lob at the Israelis.
