work hard in a game and give effort but it seems like Cuonzo is always out-coached. He players don't seem to be basketball smart and it doesn't seem like Cuonzo adapts very well during a game. It seems like we're always reacting to what the other team is doing instead of dictating the game. Anybody else feel like that? In contrast with Pearl he was always dictating the game.

Yeah Pearl was a mastermind at dictating a game. Indy, Oakland, College of Charleston, Charlotte, USC (twice)...you just have to except the fact that Pearl was declining as a coach and was reeling in Swiperboy's and Hall's.

These guys get tight in a controlled game. Let them run and play fast while playing Zo Defense. They miss way too many 2 footers.

He's not comparing. He's contrasting.
And there is a big contrast between Pearl and Martin.
Bruce Pearl would have beaten Xavier with the players Cuonzo has now.

The roster would be perfect for coach Pearl...I agree with that.

Regardless of the coach, we should have won that game easily last night.

So, Pearl will never be UT's coach again because he got a show cause from a political authoritarian entity after their "gotcha" even though he paid his penalty and also got poorly advised and represented by the UT hired law firm when the agenda driven snoopers were snooping around on campus? You're right, UT's leadership are a bunch of spineless jellyfish and that includes the BOT on down.

Good point! Wasn't his last game as coach of the Vols a 30 point embarrassing lost to Michigan in the tournament?

Those are great examples of the times I truly feel like Pearl had some Fulmer in him. He would get out coached & under motivate his team to play down below to the level of less talent the opponent had. Then before you know it....L in the record books.

But he did help motivate to play above there level many times also.......Kansas rings a bell :dunno:

You mean the game a couple of days after his wildly incompetent athletic director decided to hold a press conference to declare Pearl would be fired after the season? Yeah I'm sure the players were super focused and motivated to drag that nightmare of a season out longer.

So winning a championship wasn't good enough if the coach is fired?

Yet at the first of that season we won the NIT tournament, went into Pitt and won when they were ranked in the top 10. Pearl was thrown under the bus by the administration and a little over 20% of the fan base on Volnation and it went down hill from there. I sure wish we were declining under Pearl's coaching again.

Say what? the yr before he was fired he signed possibly his best class....T Golden, J Mcrae, and T Harris....Not to mention going to an elite eight.
