Utah State was vastly overrated. They started virtually a brand new OL as well. Keeton is not a Heisman candidate. They may win some games in their weak ass conference. The "experts" were wrong about them. UT, as deficient in depth as they are, were superior in talent to Utah St and it showed big time.

Great win for the Vols largely because of the deficit in which they won.

Worley was turn over free but some of those wild passes will be picked by better talented and faster defenders. He sailed the ball to open receivers and threw a number in the dirt.

The running game was virtually non existent against a team that the Vols should have been able to push up and down the field. Lane needs to be ran to near death, with Hurd getting his share of the load too.

If this is going to be a pass happy offense and pass first mentality, they are in for a miserable season.

Looks like we have an "expert" here

So they have nothing to work on or get better? You were completely satisfied with all of the play? You think Utah St is better than advertised? Sounds like this is what your suggesting.

Or, are you just a typical fan. "Don't talk bout my Vols" kinda guy?

Supposedly the biggest improvement comes between the 1st and 2nd games. I'm interested in seeing if UT places emphasis on running the ball against Ark St.

All in all, a very good 1st game. Sure there were some individual components that weren't up to snuff, but we all knew this going in.

So? The game didn't change my expectations all that much as i am thinking 6-6 with a chance for 7-5 and 5-7 being possible if the football bounces the wrong way in a couple critical instances. We'll take care of our cupcakes and vandy and UK. I also think we win at least one of USC Mizzou and UF. I expect us to show up to play in the big games we lose although one of them may be rather ugly.

We won against a team the media wanted us to lose against and this was a CRITICAL game for us to win if we want to go bowling. Yes it was USU and we did what we should to a team like them. Enjoy the win and the next one, and be glad we have so long to get the kinks worked out with our new guys before sec play starts.

I agree with you. I did enjoy the win. But even the head coach said they need to get much better. It's just insane how defensive people get when you state the obvious.

I'm just saying that it was freaking Utah State. I picked the Vols to win by at least 25 points....

I tend to think that both parties were responsible for the beat down.

USU looked absolutely inept. Keeton looked like an average mid-major QB. Before Fackrell went down, their LBs did look the part. I still expect them to finish second or third in their division.

But to dismiss UT's role isn't fair either. Almost every position group looked better than a year ago, except for the Offensive Line (which will improve with experience).

Some people choose to live a negative life and that's really sad to see.

Certainly our very young team has lots to improve on but buTch and staff will be seriously working on all of that.

All the so-called experts expected us to barely get a WIN but they're eating crow because we did WIN in a much better way than any of those experts predicted.

We have the youngest team in all of CFB and most freshmen don't contribute much but we set a record for the most freshmen playing and our coaches DID coach them up as fast as they could and the youngsters DID contribute and got some valuable experience and knowledge to help them keep improving.

I like the direction our program is moving but I'm realistic and know it's going to take 2 or 3 more good recruiting classes and lots more good coaching to get us back to the top where we belong.

A WIN is still a WIN and it was better than everyone predicted so I'll remain positive minded and enjoy this WIN while our coaches and kids work hard to get better so we all can enjoy more WINS as we move forward.

Step by step and #BrickbyBrick...VFL...GBO!!!

You never played football and I bet you don't even watch much football. At least not with much understanding.

Maybe that's your problem , you can't enjoy it because your too busy critizing it so much. enjoy it. You might consider that CBJ already knows what he needs to work on. And just so you know, I played a little football and I watch a lot of it because I enjoy it

Worley looked like a Top Five QB in the SEC Sunday night. He threw one low ball that was still catchable. There were at least two stone cold drops by the WR corps. Worley did not even give "a whiff" of a turnover on Sunday.

The running game must improve. I don't like the time the Bajakian running game takes to develop especially from the shotgun. Hurd needs to hit the lanes faster. Both Lane and Devrin hit the holes fast. We need more power in our power-spread. However, I think the running game is what will improve most from Game 1 to Game 2.

We must have watched 2 different games. Worley wasn't throwing "wild" passes, and the only one I can think of that was in the dirt was the low throw to Pig on the screen where Pig went to his knee. Worley's passes were for the most part crisp and on target. The 2 long passes were overthrown, but on long balls that is much preferable to underthrowing, which leads to INTs, and was what Worley did a lot last season. I think he has improved vastly.

Matt Wells said his D was going to stack the box and force Worley to beat them with the passing game and that is just what they did the entire game. It was hard for the new OL to create lanes inside with 8 in the box. And USU has built itself on its run defense the last several years. Ask USC last season. We knew this OL was going to have to grow and develop, as well as the running backs.

Anyone expecting the running game with a brand new OL to come out and be dominant in game one against a good run defense was fooling themselves. Especially one that was committed to stopping the run first. It will get better with experience.

We'll know in a couple weeks a lot better how the season really will look. Although I agree that our O-line will need to develop in a real hurry. There were some spots that need work, but damn am I glad to see some speed on our D again. There's a lot of positives to take away from this game, and it's got me excited to see what more we can do.

I see what you're going for OP. I'm not going to be satisfied until we beat Bama, Fl and every other damn team out there in a single season. But I'm lovin this win and the margin considering the "experts" line. This is a good week because we got a nice W. Live it up.

And no, I never played football, lots of other sports, but I watch the crap outta the game.

I agree that it was just Utah State. I said all summer long that they were no where near our talent level. HOWEVER.....over the last few years Tennessee may have let that same opponent hang around for 3 quarters at least before putting them away. We didn't do that this time. The Vols dominated from start to finish just like a talented team should do to a lesser opponent.

Worley looked very sharp to me. He made no stupid throws and was accurate in short and medium range throws. He needs to work on the deep ball but that is about it.

Yes, the running game has to improve, and it will throughout the season. We have to be patient with this new OL.

I wouldn't even bother watching our football games if I couldn't get any more joy than that out of a win.

I agree completely...I taught school for many years and I used to tell my students who complained about everything, "If I gave you a $100 bill, you'd complain that I didn't give it to you face us!" That is exactly what this sounds like.....Some people never find positives in anything......

Could we improve? Yes. It was the first game of the season vs a team that will in all likely hood play in a bowl game and had a QB that has a shot at making to the next level.

Also we had 32 guys that saw the field in a college game for the first time ever in their career, in front of 102,000+ people!
