It was Utah St

Utah State was vastly overrated. They started virtually a brand new OL as well. Keeton is not a Heisman candidate. They may win some games in their weak ass conference. The "experts" were wrong about them. UT, as deficient in depth as they are, were superior in talent to Utah St and it showed big time.

Great win for the Vols largely because of the deficit in which they won.

Worley was turn over free but some of those wild passes will be picked by better talented and faster defenders. He sailed the ball to open receivers and threw a number in the dirt.

The running game was virtually non existent against a team that the Vols should have been able to push up and down the field. Lane needs to be ran to near death, with Hurd getting his share of the load too.

If this is going to be a pass happy offense and pass first mentality, they are in for a miserable season.

From the author of "This is a dangerous game people" and "If Keeton can't be contained, how soon do we start the countdown on Butch"

Not saying YOU stated those sentiments...but WAY TOO MANY preached that crap!....soooo? With or without your indulgence? We gonna enjoy dis one playa! :yu:

I usually would just leave this entire thread alone; however, how can anyone be negative after the best game we have played in 5-6 years. I saw plays on defense that made me smile ear to ear. We have a future that is very bright. We have a coach who knows what he's doing. Most on this board expects nothing more then 6-7 wins this year. Take a breath, sit down, relax, and watch the transformation of UT football. We are an exciting young team, and personally, I'm tired of seeing this negative s*** on this board. BE HAPPY, BETTER DAYS ARE AHEAD VERY SOON.

So they have nothing to work on or get better? You were completely satisfied with all of the play? You think Utah St is better than advertised? Sounds like this is what your suggesting.

Or, are you just a typical fan. "Don't talk bout my Vols" kinda guy?

Of course they do Heisenberg!...and our head coach and staff (who HAVE played and/or coached a LITTLE in their lifetime) have a vested interest in addressing the bugs...kind of affects their performance evaluation? :wink2: It seems that your concern stems from the rare Vol faithful that yells "SEC Championship...this year!" from the rafters. Quit pontificating with the rest of us! :stop: We know to take each game on our schedule seriously... We just don't want to do LOSS ANALYSIS before we even freaking lose!

Just relax, there was a lot of good, bad, and ugly in that game, you seem to want to focus on the bad. The coaches have to make improvements this week, but with a solid defense making plays there is a lot to build on.

Completely disagree about Worley - he played well and the only ball he threw too low was to Pig when he had to go way down and touched the ground with his knee. Few overthrown balls are no cause for concern - better to do this then under-throw resulting in interceptions (also Worley showed he has enough arm strength for deep balls which I was not convinced off last year).
The main area of concern going forward will be the o-line - it is the likely reason we can't run as much out of standard formations as you would like/expect (against non SEC competition). However, when you have play-makers all over the field you can run in different ways - all those passes to Pig towards the sidelines are basically designed runs - it's just moving running plays away from the D-line and to the areas where our receivers and tight ends can help block and do it more effectively than our o-line can right now. We'll have to see how that will work against better/faster competition but it's not unreasonable strategy right now.

We played Utah State and dominated them. Were you expecting us to beat them so bad that they forfeited the game?

OP, the run game definitely needs some work and I expect to see more emphasis on the run game this upcoming Saturday. On the other hand, Worley looked much improved compared to last years opener. At one point, he had 11 straight completions. Worley does need to work on his deep ball but he should only improve as the season progresses. Utah States biggest weakness on D was their passing D and the staff exploited it with our talented wideouts. With that being said, the o line needs more time on the field to improve as a unit.

"Some of those wild passes"? Which wild passes? He didn't even sniff a possible int.

What wild passes? He overthrew a couple deep balls, but I did not see any wild passes. He put balls were only our receivers could catch them and did a great job with the plays that were called.

This team is gonna be in for a tough season regardless of run first or pass first if the O line doesn't improve drastically.

Worley's accuracy will suffer against teams that can pressure him like almost any QB.

To rely on Lane and Hurd to run themselves "near to death" is going away from the strength of the offense, the play makers on this team on the outside though.

This isn't a 90's era Nebraska or even a 98 Vols o line that can impose their will on anyone in the SEC and shove the ball down their throats.

This offense will only go as far as the O line will take them, which isn't much more than 5-6 wins IMO.

The OP is not wrong. I'm still pretty pleased though. This is a young team that is going to really come together by mid season and be a force to be reckoned with in the east. Oklahoma and UGA will be rough as hell early on though, if we're being realistic.

It's the same as every year though, fans get too high on a win or too low on a loss.

I agree with you. I did enjoy the win. But even the head coach said they need to get much better. It's just insane how defensive people get when you state the obvious.

I'm just saying that it was freaking Utah State. I picked the Vols to win by at least 25 points....

So they exceeded your expectations then so you should be happy. But let's be honest...you came here to post that post knowing full well what kind of reaction you would get. You go it so I guess you're happy.:clapping:

When Orange Parmejohn and Boca Vol call you out on your negativity, you know you have a negativity problem. No offense to the Florida Vol or the delicious chicken dish.

First Game! let them get their feet under them and gel . It will get better as the season goes. That is the point right?

Our team looked as advertised young and no we aren't going to win a national championship, but how can anyone complain with how our D played? How many open field tackles did they make that last year would have resulted in 40+ yard gains. Like everyone's been saying O-line needs some work, the run game isn't quite there, but heck we are only week 1 into the season with a QB who looked very good even with his inexperienced oline. Breath brothers the future is bright

Worley looked like a Top Five QB in the SEC Sunday night. He threw one low ball that was still catchable. There were at least two stone cold drops by the WR corps. Worley did not even give "a whiff" of a turnover on Sunday.

The running game must improve. I don't like the time the Bajakian running game takes to develop especially from the shotgun. Hurd needs to hit the lanes faster. Both Lane and Devrin hit the holes fast. We need more power in our power-spread. However, I think the running game is what will improve most from Game 1 to Game 2.

I said in another thread that we will never have another run like graham vs Ohio st. He was in the secondary before these guys get the handoff. One guy said rb didn't have good enuff vision. I am glad I am not the only one who knows this, sees this... Not hating tho...

We won. The sky is falling!!!!!!!

Sure there are some concerns, but Worley throwing wild passes is not one of them. The OL will have big problems against elite pass rushing DEs and the DL will likely have problems with power running teams like UGA and Obammer, but we needed this win to get to a bowl and we got it. We are still looking at a 6 to 7 win season. Just relax and enjoy the ride.

Check the stats... USU was ranked 11th in rushing defense for 2013-2014 season, Al was 9th, Ohio St was 10th. That is
pretty good company. Don't sell them short and don't sell us short.

This happens when you play against butt hole state every week in their conference.........

So, USU is as good as Bumma and Ohio St?
