It was Utah St

This happens when you play against butt hole state every week in their conference.........

So, USU is as good as Bumma and Ohio St?

Either be happy or go and play in traffic. Last week everyone was concerned about Utah State. Now that we beat them, they were a bunch of bums.

It was a win. We got few of those to celebrate last year. It's yet to be seen how many we'll have to celebrate this year. With that in mind, learn how to celebrate them when you get them.

If you have one patch of nice grass in your lawn, you learn to urinate elsewhere.

That is all.

Utah State was vastly overrated. They started virtually a brand new OL as well. Keeton is not a Heisman candidate. They may win some games in their weak ass conference. The "experts" were wrong about them. UT, as deficient in depth as they are, were superior in talent to Utah St and it showed big time.

Great win for the Vols largely because of the deficit in which they won.

Worley was turn over free but some of those wild passes will be picked by better talented and faster defenders. He sailed the ball to open receivers and threw a number in the dirt.

The running game was virtually non existent against a team that the Vols should have been able to push up and down the field. Lane needs to be ran to near death, with Hurd getting his share of the load too.

If this is going to be a pass happy offense and pass first mentality, they are in for a miserable season.

dun dun dun NEGAVOL!!!!!!!!

a lot of what you say is true here, but can you remember the last time we tackled like that against any team. i'm staying positive this week. offense needs some work, D looked great. Overall i'm pretty happy.

No pleasing some people. Worley looked better than anybody expected, as did the defense. The O line needs some work for sure. But the Vols won in dominant fashion and surprised a lot of experts and posters on here. It's OK to be happy about it.

OP, I now realize being happy after wins is a deep and unredeemable sin. I apologize profusely for my transgressions.

This team has a lot of youth. That said, the D played lights out, albeit against a lesser team. Will there be struggles on this side of the ball? Of course. I don't expect the same results when we play OU, but I don't believe they will give a lesser effort.

Yes, the O side of the ball looked to be improved as well. When looking at the lesser talents we played last year, Worley wasn't near as good as he was Sunday night. That is a big improvement. There is youth on the O line, and Utah State did stack the box to stop the run. I do believe that as teams begin to realize that Worley and the receiving corps can attack and score they will have to play a little more honestly to defend both run and pass. This by itself will open the run game.

Do I think we win 9 games? Nope. I do see that it could be possible. I think that 6 or 7 is the most likely outcome. That in itself would show great improvement over the past 4 years, and give the Vol faithful something to be proud of.

We aren't where we need to be yet. However, I do see that this team has improved, and will continue to improve. Right now I am going to enjoy the victory, refrain from being a negavol, and look forward to seeing how this team comes together as the year progresses. Again, we aren't world beaters yet, but it looks more and more like we are headed that way. Butch knows what he is doing, and he will get us there. GBO!

Here I thought that you were supposed to take what the defense gives, not just rush a hundred times for 1.2 yards a carry.

I guess the Derek Dooley method of coaching failed to sink into my brain... I rather thought that passing the short routes to the playmakers in order to continuously move the chains seemed an effective strategy, but what do I know, OP?

Look, it was a good win and sent a message, but Worley did throw some crappy balls with no pressure. We ran 0 slants and our run game was terrible. I know they stacked the box, but we should still have gained more rushing yardage. I think those pointing these facts out are not being negative, but just looking at the big picture and the whole schedule. There is legitimate argument that maybe we played it vanilla and will continue to do so until we need to do otherwise.... why would we show our hand early before OK? I think this weekend we will play Ark St tough and do what we need to to get the win, but will not show a lot of razzle dazzle unless absolutely necessary. With that being said, the only thing I would like to see improvement on this weekend is how hard our RBs hit the holes..... we were hesitant and our O line is not built to open up holes and keep them open this year. Our RBs need to take what they can get and burst north/south without happy feet.

I don't know why I expected anything less from some on Violation. We looked good on Sunday night. Yea we r not national champ contenders but most had us on upset alert. It wasn't even close. They scored once on our 2nd team.

I loved the game and am very proud of our young men. The run game will improve. I know Worley threw to the flats a lot but made some sharp throws downfield too. He had some arm strength though.

I think madbama is just mad . . .

I actually agree with the OP. Tennessee and VolNation start this way every year. Look guys, we beat a solid team in Western Kentucky last year. Dooley beat a solid Cincinnati team as well. Utah State is a solid team for who they are, but they'd be a bottom feeder if they played in the SEC. Let's enjoy the win, but keep a level head.

We won't know anything until we play Oklahoma.

Playing 30 freshmen and still dominating anyone is an accomplishment.
Enjoy the win. Plenty of season left for the Nancies.

Untrue. We know absolutely, positively, that we are 1-0. We can celebrate that.

Next week, when we are 2-0? I'll celebrate that.

The next week, when we are more than likely 2-1? I'll be bummed, but a little happy that we're 2-1 instead of 0-3.

You guys see how it works?

True the Vols won. I mentioned that in my op.

You never played football and I bet you don't even watch much football. At least not with much understanding.

Thank you "MR FOOTBALL EXPERT", that played and coached football all of your life!

I can see it now....We upset Oklahoma and the following post shows up worded in about 20 different ways...."Well, it really wasn't all that great a win...Oklahoma was way over-hyped!" Don't know why I keep coming back here and reading this stuff....
