It's Done - Strong will be announced [unconfirmed]

Tell me what you see in your super duper crystal ball that tells you we have a shot at getting a top 10 class with any of these names floating around (Fisher, Strong, Gundy...) besides Gruden. Tennessee just went 1-7 in the SEC for the 2nd year in a row and we have no in state recruiting base. The only way to balance out these factors is to drop a nuke on the college football world and go get a "name" like Chucky.

Cincinnati has 17 commitments to Louisville's 9 at the moment. Recruiting rankings right now matter about as much as our opinions on here.

Your problem is assuming that a poster on VN has any sort of critical thinking skills.

If true, fire Dave Hart. Do it yesterday.
I'm not totally opposed to Strong, but he's probably near the bottom of my list of acceptable candidates.

The sticking point for me here is the figure we're set to pay. $3.5 mill is so wildly out of proportion with the quality of the hire that it gives me pause. To me, he's worth only slightly more than we paid Dooley till he gives me at least 2 9-win seasons, then we can talk a pay raise on that level.

Because the salary is so unbelievable, I have to call BS on the OP. That is bad information or you're trolling us.

If this intel is good, then Dave Hart should be persona non grata in Tennessee for as long as he lives.

Ha ha, using DMX.. when he was on a show crying bout losing his wife, and being all soft.. he looked so pathetic.. i wish i could remember more of what he was crying about, it was stupid stuff..critics said he lost all street cred..

Don't know anything about that, I just like the song "rough riders", and i always thought that album cover was pretty cool looking. I like Onyx alot better to be honest.

Link? In his three years he has finished 2nd, 1st, and 2nd in the big east.

I just went off the Rivals recruiting rankings the 3 years prior to Strong getting to UL. Louisville always had a better ranked class than Cinci did. CS class this year is over 20 spots behind Cinci in a year CS was 9-0 at one pooint and is headed to a BCS bowl. His recruiting is questionable at best. People giving him credit for UF's good classes is a reach at best. He was 1 coach out of 9-10 recruiting. Does John Chavis get credit for LSU's top 5-10 classes they always land?

According to a recent commitment, Finesse Middleton, Strong told him Sunday Night after he commited....

Middleton, a 6-foot, 249-pound player, said U of L coach Charlie Strong was excited to get the news of his commitment on Sunday night after Middleton returned home. He said Strong – a name mentioned as a potential candidate for multiple coaching vacancies – told him he’d be staying at U of L, an assurance that Middleton wanted to get and sought out point-blank.

“He was like, ‘I ain’t going nowhere no time soon,” Middleton said. “… I asked him straight up if he was going to leave or had any intention of leaving, and he said, ‘no.’”

College Football: Louisville Coach Charlie Strong,

if Hart signs Strong for 3.75 million he should be fired immediately.

3 years of HC experience in a very weak conference does not warrant that kind of money.

He got lucky with TB , without him what would Louisville record be this year. This reminds me of Auburn with Cam.

He got lucky with TB...by recruiting him.

Isnt that what dooley tried....micro manage all the assistants and it dont work.....never has and never will..u surround yourself with assistants you think are better than you. Gandi

Yes, you have to surround yourself with good coaches to be successful in this league. I don't care who you are...Saban, Miles, Richt, Muskrat all have great staffs.

So CS gets credit for all the recruiting done at a school like Florida. Interesting. If he is so good at recruiting, it should transfer over to his new school no matter where it is. I did note that Louisville always had better classes than Cinci before strong got there. Now, not so much. Another interesting observation.

Not sure where you saw "all" recruiting, but he does get credit for a lot. Also, as I mentioned, he's done it in SEC country, against SEC teams. He is currently recruiting in no-mans-land, to a basketball school, and Jones is recruiting Ohio kids to an Ohio school, on the coat tails of Kelly.

Strong brought his program to a BCS bowl out of the ashes, Jones inherited a team fresh off a BCS appearance. See the difference?

Context huh? Just because you throw more money at a guy, does not make him a better coach. Twist it anyway you like. Their numbers in the same cenference are very similar.

So you're going to dismiss the context? That's going to get you laughed out of the building.

I'll gladly "twist" it. And I'll be right, because I actually pay attention to variables. Strong posted the same results as Jones while inheriting a vastly inferior situation. Therefore, clearly superior coaching job.

That is the most BANDWAGON FAN BS Iv'e heard in a while. Don't need fans as fickle as this statement represents IMO. Def not sounding like a VFL...

We have had season tickets for 30+ years and have seen really good and really bad. I struggled through Dooley and honestly Strong is a huge leap forward in comparison in areas that may be immeasurable. I posted earlier about the INTANGIBLES a coach must possess to be a winner and an effective leader and build a winning chemistry.Sideline and locker room emotion... interacting well with recruits(not being stuck up...a la (Dools).

I dont care what sport in the world you pick...if the team wins the vast majority of its games with equal talent as a scale for the league...the coach undoubtedly has established a connection with those players and they respect and believe they CAN WIN EVERY GAME (NOT HOPE WE CAN WIN like Dools). If we have the same talent as our competition in the SEC then why would these same intangible qualities not filter over and be just as effective. Eh?

I am anything but a Bandwagon Fan....so know your role before you open your mouth....I have always cheered for the Vols thru the good and bad....always....when I lived in Baltimore I repped our colors almost every day....now that I am in SC I wear my TN gear religiously...but I am tired of settling for mediocrity bc our AD doesnt want to spend the money....I didnt say I wouldnt support the players I said I wouldnt support the coach...and its my money that I work my ass off for and if I choose not to spend 500/1000 dollars for a weekend trip to watch another unproven coach until he does prove he belongs then that is my damn right.....

Are you seriously going to use a class that is not even finished yet to base your argument off of . Especially when you consider the fact that Louisville only has 9 commits currently in comparison to Louisville's 17. Strong has most people take there OV's in January, and therefore has consistently gotten the bulk of his commitments in that time frame. This has led to classes that are 2nd, 1st, and 2nd in the Big East. The only program that has finished above him is Rutgers which is helped to there strong ties to instate programs like Don Bosco prep.

Was just brought up on the gruden thread.. but how can hart make the announcement when he will be in new york on wednesday, for the college hall of fame thing?

Charlie Stong 1999-2009: 10 years as a DC in the SEC gave up a combined 21.3 pts per game against UGA, UF, BAMA, and USC. UGA was the only school he went against all 10 years during that time period and gave up 17.5 pts/game. 6 games vs BAMA 26.5/game.

College Football: Louisville Coach Charlie Strong,

$3.5 million later...? This is still "unconfirmed"...I will reserve judgement. After all, Gruden was a "done deal" many times.
