It's Done - Strong will be announced [unconfirmed]

Strong just feels like a Blanc/Young type pickup. Sure he could end up being great but you don't take his commitment this early

Exactly, Still plenty of coaches in the NFL that you could go after. To offer that amount of money to Strong when you can get a "proven" coach for the same amount is strange.

Charlie Strong:

24-14 in the Big East.

3.75 million per year.

Butch Jones:

23–14 in the Big East.

50-27 total as a Head Coach.

Would take the job yesterday for 2.25 million per year.

What's wrong with this picture????
Cinci was in the Sugar Bowl the year butch took over. What's wrong with your logic?

Since a lot of you are asking - my stance on Gruden/Coaching Search in Gernal:

I do still think Gruden is possible. Way to much contradicting information out there. Inside the AD there is a lot of conflicting info - from people who should know either way.

I think Strong is a real possibility as well.

Honestly, I still believe it's Gruden - but I will wait to see who is officially announced instead of trying to react to all of the noise.
I'm holding out a little scant hope that we've all been duped by the media and that it's Gruden in the end, but I also have felt Strong would be the guy, if not.

I would have liked to see a longer duration of winning at Lousiville, but sometimes you don't have the ideal candidates you want, to choose from...and you have to strike while the iron is hot. I thought Strong would have been a better candidate than Dooley, last time around (would've taken a proven Coordinator in the SEC over a losing WAC HC any day of the week).

He has all the credentials Hart outlined in the press conference, and his experience in the SEC probably gives him the leg up on the others.

Louisville is in the Big East. Righting the ship in a crappy conference isn't difficult. The top of the Big East is just about equivalent to the lower quartile of the SEC.

Doesn't matter. Ask the Auburn folks how they felt after hiring Pat Dye from Wyoming. Or the UF people how much the strength of conference mattered with Urban Meyer.

Using your process of elimination, LSU should never have hired Saban or Miles.

This would not be a settle hire at all. Strong has paid his dues and has been around the SEC and college football for a long time. He has been prepped for this kind of job.

I think tons of schools would wish they had pulled the trigger on him eventually.

It's still a very big risk. UT at this point is in need of someone who can win right away. His coaching ability to me is not proven yet. JMO.

Hiring Strong would just show that UT once again would prefer to roll the dice on an unproven head coach rather than spend the major cash that top programs shell out to hire top tier experienced head coaches. Is Strong a poor coach? No. Is he a difference maker of a coach? No. UT needs a difference maker of a coach.

Doesn't look like the kind of person I want coaching at OUR school.

If he can't be motivated enough to grow hair, how can he motivate our football team?

Bald black guys are pretty intimidating

Just tell us this. How is strong going to compete against ala, sc, fl, ga. Is he going to out coach the coaches at these schools, or is he going to out recruit them, or both. I see neither happening as we continue to sink deeper and deeper.

UT's not going to win right away with any coach...we've first got to start recruiting great athletes...then we can start to compete with the top SEC teams....1st things 1st

Folks I've predicted Strong from the beginning but it doesnt mean I like it. I will wait until after 2013 recruiting class is signed. If it aint top 10 we are toast. Bottom drewlers for 3 more years.

Wrong. Brian Kelly left after regular season and before sugar bowl. Know your sh!t before ya post, moron

The year Butch took over (Sugar Bowl year) Cinci was in the Sugar Bowl. If reading comprehension was your gifting you would see that I didn't say Butch got them in the Sugar Bowl. If you call me I can explain it better.

You don't have to have graduated from the school in order to win championships. Last I checked that guy coaching Alabama didn't go to school there and he has done pretty well. Just give me a darn good coach, I could care less where he went to school

Bringing in someone with ties to UT doesn't mean that they have to have graduated from there does it . Gruden got his coaching career started at UT under Majors , his wife was a cheerleader at UT . This means that HE HAS TIES TO UT , pretty good ties at that.

You don't know anything if you think that we're getting a top 10 class this year without Gruden.

Strong is a great recruiter, but he's not a miracle worker. Gruden was the only "instant fix".

My guy at UT just said John Gruden will be the OC/DC/AD. 6.872 JILLION a year salary. TIFWIW.

Isnt that what dooley tried....micro manage all the assistants and it dont work.....never has and never will..u surround yourself with assistants you think are better than you. Gandi

If this in fact is true would or could he hire some homerun coordinators? I would be absolutely fine with this hire if he were aloud to get a couple guys worth a million plus a year to run the offense and defense that is if he didn't run the D himself. I just hope the coordinators are as good AND PROVEN as the head coach!
GO VOLS!!!

if Hart signs Strong for 3.75 million he should be fired immediately.

3 years of HC experience in a very weak conference does not warrant that kind of money.

He got lucky with TB , without him what would Louisville record be this year. This reminds me of Auburn with Cam.
