It's Done - Strong will be announced [unconfirmed]

My guy said that we can expect Vince Lombardi to be named HC following his reanimation.

But my guy does some wacky-a$$ drugs.

Just tell us this. How is strong going to compete against ala, sc, fl, ga. Is he going to out coach the coaches at these schools, or is he going to out recruit them, or both. I see neither happening as we continue to sink deeper and deeper.

The same questions could be asked of everyone being considered for the job.

What makes Strong a quality candidate for this position is the fact he has actually worked in a rebuilding job very similar to the one we find ourselves in now. He's a quality recruiter, one of the best in the Southeast who would thrive working at a big-time program. He's a quality coach who took a program with 2 conference wins in the previous two seasons and won 13 conference games in his first three years.

This isn't his first rodeo dealing with a program in a situation similar to Tennessee's. I'll certainly welcome the guy who has been there and done that rebuilding over someone who only has experience with stable programs.

How can they say Strong is a great recruiter 2011 class # 29 2012 class # 42 2013 class as of now #74

I agree it would be a good hire, but I'll refrain from saying great because he is still a bit unproven as HC. Paying him 3.75 million seems really high, but I guess that is what he is worth at the moment.

Isnt that what dooley tried....micro manage all the assistants and it dont work.....never has and never will..u surround yourself with assistants you think are better than you. Gandi

I still don't get the micromanage bs. That was never the case. He said late in the season that he had spent no time on the defensive side of the ball. Never heard of a micromanager that operated out of sight and ear.

Agree but his followers going to tell you no one wants to play in the BIg East... He'll be an instant hit at Tennessee.

Florida passed him over for Meyer when Zook was fired then Muschamp when Urban left.

Arkansas has essentially had an opening for a year and there has not been an inkling of interest.

When a school that he was employed at for 7 years and his home state passes him over, what are we missing here?

Folks, calm down. Odds are this is someone who's just been keeping up with the coaching spin-wheel we all are, read up on the speculation that Strong could be elsewhere next season (it's a possibility), read his non-denials and no comments, then convinced himself after his press-conference today that not only was he leaving, but was leaving for TN.

He came here to try and get some responses and credibility on the chance that he's right. If he is, he looks like a genius. If he's not - he can say he got bad information from his source, or that he had been "smokescreened" as well.

Check his record while at an SEC school. Nobody wants to play at Louisville. As said previously, context.

So CS gets credit for all the recruiting done at a school like Florida. Interesting. If he is so good at recruiting, it should transfer over to his new school no matter where it is. I did note that Louisville always had better classes than Cinci before strong got there. Now, not so much. Another interesting observation.

Here is my issue. Look at the fact that it took him THREE whole seasons to get to a BCS game. Now look at some of the good coaches out there. Saban has been to a BCS bowl two years in a row. Now that is the sign of a good coach. Gruden went to Bowls all the time, same with Stoops and Gundy. All have coached and likely won BCS bowls. So you Strong fanboys can please leave, and get back to me when he plays in a BCS bowl!!

So damn true!

Really?

Folks I've predicted Strong from the beginning but it doesnt mean I like it. I will wait until after 2013 recruiting class is signed. If it aint top 10 we are toast. Bottom drewlers for 3 more years.

God are fan base is stupid, expecting any coach to take a class outside of the top 25 and turn it into a top 10 class in less than two months is absurd

Charlie Strong:

24-14 in the Big East.

3.75 million per year.

Butch Jones:

23–14 in the Big East.

50-27 total as a Head Coach.

Would take the job yesterday for 2.25 million per year.

What's wrong with this picture????

Not sure.

Butch Jones lost to a Derek Dooley coached team by a wide margin. That clears up any picture regarding him in my eyes. And that has nothing to do with Strong or money.

Bald black guys are pretty intimidating

Link? In his three years he has finished 2nd, 1st, and 2nd in the big east.

Maybe CS is just having a bad year then(BCS bowl and all). Currently his class ranks about 20 spots behind Cinci in recruiting.

Cincinnati has 17 commitments to Louisville's 9 at the moment. Recruiting rankings right now matter about as much as our opinions on here.

if we hire Gundy or for all thats good in the world, Gruden....I would make the 6hr trip at least twice to come and watch games....if we hire Strong....I will never make the trip....and I will be against him til he wins the East....he is not as proven as the other coaches who are available and if we SETTLE for him then I will not support the football team until he proves he belongs....and dont give me this crap about him going to BCS bc the only reason is bc the Big East sucks...havent seen the latest polls but as of last week NO TEAMS IN TOP 25 in the AP or BCS.....only UL and Rutgers in USA today at 24 and 25...... 2 MAC teams ahead of them and Utah STate....but no matter what I say, the Strong supporters will make excuses for him and his recruiting at a BB

way to be against him and our program stay home don't want to be told to sit down by you anyway

That is the most BANDWAGON FAN BS Iv'e heard in a while. Don't need fans as fickle as this statement represents IMO. Def not sounding like a VFL...

We have had season tickets for 30+ years and have seen really good and really bad. I struggled through Dooley and honestly Strong is a huge leap forward in comparison in areas that may be immeasurable. I posted earlier about the INTANGIBLES a coach must possess to be a winner and an effective leader and build a winning chemistry.Sideline and locker room emotion... interacting well with recruits(not being stuck up...a la (Dools).

I dont care what sport in the world you pick...if the team wins the vast majority of its games with equal talent as a scale for the league...the coach undoubtedly has established a connection with those players and they respect and believe they CAN WIN EVERY GAME (NOT HOPE WE CAN WIN like Dools). If we have the same talent as our competition in the SEC then why would these same intangible qualities not filter over and be just as effective. Eh?

Not sure.

And as I posted earlier, Tyler and company would have done the exact same thing to Loiusville that day. Just look at what Syracuse did to UL this year. Jones and Strong's records in the BE are the same. No way is one coach worth 1.5 million more than the other one is.

Doesn't matter. Ask the Auburn folks how they felt after hiring Pat Dye from Wyoming. Or the UF people how much the strength of conference mattered with Urban Meyer.

Using your process of elimination, LSU should never have hired Saban or Miles.
Exactly. Folks who post this nonsense never stop to think or even do a little research. It's like those who say they don't want Tressel cause he "can't beat SEC teams." He's 1-3 in BCS Bowl games against the SEC. Having the 2nd best team in the nation is not something to be ashamed of. :loco:
