Just out of curiosity, how many people making under $250k do you know losing their homes?

And here's another one for you. The wealthiest couple of all those in our circle of close friends live in the smallest home.

They aren't rich if they are trying to keep up with others. I can't actually believe you made such a statement.

I know many people making at least $250,000 and none of them are losing their homes.

Regardless, those making 250000 have a far easier time coping under times of economic duress than your basic middle class family. It is absurd you could think otherwise, but I have a sneaky suspicion you are either still in college or are a recent graduate and have no frame of reference to be making such foolish comments

That makes zero sense and is totally wrong. Just because you make x amount doesn't automatically make you smart with your money.

Who will have a tougher time finding a different job with equal pay? A guy making 250,000 with mortgage on a 800 to million dollar home or a guy making 40-50 thousand with a mortgage on a 200,000 dollar home?

I don't know many wealthy people, but one that comes to mind lived in a very small house in my grandparents neighborhood. No one knew he had money and when he died he ended up leaving a little over 1 million to his brother.

Then he will have to sell his home. He/She shouldn't have bought such an expensive home if there was any chance their job was on shaky ground. You aren't reflecting the right wing values you espouse to with most of your posts. If don't have the cash on hand to make a year's worth of payments, you are living above your means. Plain and simple. I do know what I am talking about. I am 45 years old and have zero debt.

Every job is on shaky ground, but most people don't live like that.

I agree. But the fact is almost nobody lives like that, which is what really is wrong with the country.

The country is credit crazy and that includes people making over $250,000. In many parts of the country, even a person making $250 isn't what it sounds like. But Obama is going to raise their taxes and that's stupid.

I'm 26 and debt free sans my mortgage payment. Everything in my condo I paid for with cash. I paid for my wife's engagement ring in cash. I own no credit cards and if I can't pay for something I save up until i can.

I'm in the process of saving to by a new (used) car for my wife. I don't live check to check and have 6 months living expenses in savings.

You sound very responsible. :good!:

I would get a CC if I were you if for no other reason than to have when travelling. You can't rent a car without one. YOu don't have use it but when/if you do, pay the balance off when you get your monthly statement.

depends on your definition. 44% of the people in this country make between 25-75K a year as a household. sounds like the middle class to me.

even DR carries a credit card for travel and emergency....i pay mine off monthly and rack up points...get one that pays points or miles but doesn't have a high fee

that's a pretty significant gap, considering one end is 3x the other end.

Average HHI is just below $50K a year.
