Its time to think about Diego Pavia

If Vandy drags us into a rock fight in the 4th quarter with the game still in doubt, then we better worry. That offense puts so much pressure on the defense to play assignment football, one bad read and they can bust a big splash play. I’m still not sure our young LBs may not bust some assignments. Banks and the defensive staff will earn their keep this week, attack that offense downhill hard to disrupt the timing and reads for Vandy QB. Our season is on the line Saturday in Nashville. Hope we have a good week of prep and stay healthy during the week and Saturday. Go Vols! Beat Vandy!
You have to spy this QB all game. Better have someone around him at all times. Need the Dline to dominate this game or we'll have to play that rock fight deal..

Whole gameplan needs to be to stop Pavia.. Can't come out slow in this one. Vandy tends to hang around in games, and with the way we play at times it makes me nervous just thinking about it.
Some of you are making Vandy and Pavia out to be offensive juggernauts. They aren’t even close to that. Did they hang around with SC? No they didn’t and our defense and offense is better.

I get it. Little bit of BVS here. They're just scrappy and tend to hang around.. Vols haven't been great away from Neyland so. Game is far from a give me.

I have. No idea what you are talking about, you said that they weren’t ready to play in any of the road games, and I said yes they were. Not sure why you started talking about the home games, go back and show me where I said anything about them playing a complete game. They are 9-2 fixing to be 10-2 , nothing is ever good enough for some of the so called fans.
A W is a W and I’ll take them all day long. Home or away. But to pretend our offense doesn’t have to step it up if we want to go on a run is incorrect in imo. Although my opinion is just as good as the next.

Our offense has not lit anybody up in conference play and with the way we’ve played the run lately not sure if SC defense is playing better right now. I agree they are not offensive juggernauts but if we don’t lay the wood to their QB we may be in scramble mode in the 4th quarter. Trust me I hope I’m wrong, but nothing tells me our offense is gonna roll their defense at will. Maybe, just maybe this is the game where we put it all together and score 3 or 4 times during the first half. We shall see. This game will determine a lot about our coaches and players and can we execute the game plan for 4 quarters on the road with a playoff berth on the line. Get your popcorn ready, cause we shall see. Go Vols! Beat Vandy!

Great game for Nico and our receivers to put it all together so to speak, but I’ve been saying that every game since Arkansas

While I agree with you 💯, that is not what this conversation was originally about. But yes they are going to have to play 4 quarters of consistent football to do anything in the playoffs.

Clark Lea and Jerry Kill have been aiming at this game for weeks and had a recent open date. Dores could be bone weary at the end of the season including Pavia nursing injuries. Expect trick plays and every Vandy possession being 4 downs. Great to be optimistic and bullish but do not be foolhardy and think there is any correlation between 2024 Vanderbilt and the teams in your memory.

We are all giddy with excitement the way this weekend has gone. Win and we’re in, and that win need only come against little brother Vandy. In a sane year that would be a non issue.

But this is not a sane year. And Diego Pavia is the reason Vandy is not the Vandy of old. His ability to scramble, to delay, to turn broken plays into gains is Manziel-esque. He is an accurate passer with good vision on top of his scrambling ability, and he absolutely possesses the ability to derail our season hopes if we cannot find an answer for him.

We are the better of the two teams in terms of talent, size and speed. Carolina, who is not as good as us, went into Nashville last week and handled business against the dores. But in a season of chaos, I would be lying if this game against our old in state rival didn’t feel like a quintessential trap game.

The Vols need to come out focused and on a mission. No slow starts. Come hard after Pavia and spy him when you don’t. Step on their necks early and leave no hope that they can ruin our trip to the playoffs. Wouldn’t hurt to have the stands painted Big Orange either.

Need a couple pops by Boo Carter on Pavia. Eric Berry would have changed Diego's mind about running it.

I believe we are building Vandy into more than they are. Reality is that, out of 133 FBS teams, their offense is 77th (13 th in the SEC) in scoring and 116th (15th in the SEC) in total offensive yards. That compares to UT 12th (2nd in SEC) scoring and 11th (3rd in SEC) total offensive yards.

Defensively, the story is similar: Vandy is 40th (12th in SEC) in scoring and Vandy is 61st (13th in SEC) in defensive yards allowed. UT is 4th (2nd in SEC) in points allowed and 6th (2nd in SEC) in yards allowed.

Vandy will give their best effort and there is always a chance as we saw with Bama road woes this year, but UT is objectively the superior team.

Stats aside, they’ve played when it matters and got some big Ws for a Vandy team. Played Texas within 3 as well.

Diego Pavia is the Joe Montana of Vanderbilt.

Need to adopt the same mentality Marcus Freeman said he tried to instill in Notre Dame yesterday against Army’s option offense: violence. Don’t sit back on your heels and let them confuse you with motion. Attack, attack, attack. Run through blocks. Keep contain. Big test for our linebackers, but the big uglies up front can make it easier on them by winning the los.
Every game is a big test for our linebackers since Pili got hurt...

SC is a heck of a lot better than everybody thought preseason...I remember folks laughing about Beamer and his chances with the SEC schedule this year...They are tough up front on both sides of the ball and have a freshman QB that seems to do better each week...Their game at Clemson this Saturday should be a good game...

SC is definitely better than most thought including me. I believe we would beat them and I still say our defense is better. Especially now that Pearce has awakened.

If it’s not a good game, it will be because Cackalack is taking Clempson to the woodshed.

This team hasn’t been ready for a road game all season. Definitely reason to be a bit nervous.
I feel like we handled the oklahoma road game pretty well. Injuries to the OL led us to rely a little more on the defense than anyone would have liked but, at that point, the most important thing was getting out of there with a win and no catastrophic injuries.
