Its time to think about Diego Pavia

And having his team "fired up and focused" does not appear to be a Heupel strength. You can bet that Vandy will play like this game is for a national title.
And you can bet it won’t matter. Thief last home win was against Ball State whom trr he eh beat 24-14. The comparable team to us on Vandys schedule is SC. That game was in Nashville. Look how that turned out.

I’ve watched Vandy and Pavia a bit, and the OP is right. With Pavia, Vandy is a dangerous team. This isn’t your normal Vandy. I think the way to handle Pavia is to keep him in the pocket and force him to make plays from there. Don’t over pursue and allow him to extend plays by escaping the pocket and creating chaos for your defense.

Stop the run and keep Pavia in the pocket. If he starts escaping the pocket, assign a spy that makes this more difficult for him.

I also think one of the most important things in this game is to keep their crowd out of it. This isn’t a normal season. Vandy has given a bit of life to some starving fans. If they hang with TN late in the game this could be a huge factor, especially with a player like Pavia leading them. This might sound silly, but don’t underestimate intensity and momentum. If this game were in Neyland I wouldn’t give Vandy much chance, but this game isn’t in Neyland.

However, I think you guys will be ready. Playoff on the line, I expect to see TN at its best and that will beat Vandy.

You guys are in the shape that I wanted GA to be in. You guys will host a playoff game if you beat Vandy. We have to play Tech and then a grueling SEC championship game that is likely a play in game. You guys are in an enviable position.

I anticipate this to be a dogfight. Vandy will not roll over for Tennessee. Our Vols are going to be riding into Nashville knowing that they hold their own destiny in terms of the playoffs. I expect them to be ready and to win, but not easily.

May I remind you of the 2016 Vandy game with the effin SUGAR BOWL on the line.....we laid an egg. Let's not get too cocky! #GBO
Who’s getting cocky? This isn’t a Butch Jones team and this isn’t 2016. I said we would be ready, where did I say we would blow their doors off?

Road game dominance are still the one thing preventing UT from entering the top Tier of college football.

Do you consider Georgia to be top tier? They are 2-2 on the road this year. How about Bama? They are also 2-3 on the road.

I agree that the team doesn't seem to play as well on the road as they do at home - but that seems to be the nature of college football these days.

There’s plenty of film on Pavia to know what to expect and I can’t see a reason we can’t shut them out with our talent. He’s good, but we should be able to stop him completely given that it’s game 12 and I don’t think he’s been hurt.

We’re at the top of the SEC this year. We aren’t the top, but no one has proven any better after 11 games.

Let’s hope our coaches have learned…..

We should have pressured Beck … we didn’t.

We need to pressure Pavia and spy him….. we’ll know shortly.

Didn’t have time to read through the posts so it may have already been said. 8 of the 11 starting QB’s we’ve faced haven’t finished the game due to injuries. Pavia is the one who had best be careful. Our defense doesn’t mess around. He’s a tough guy but one can only take so many hits. And he is going to get hit Saturday.

We beat OU handily when they were full strength. Bama got blown out at OU when they had 5 WR on injured list. I think Bama would take the sound win we got in Oklahoma. If Vols cannot get up for last game of year vs a team that is Bowl eligible and beat Bama and took Texas to a 3 point game, we don't deserve the Playoffs plain and simple.
Oklahoma wasn’t full strength.

Bama was home…… we scored 7 after the 1st quarter at ga. No after half. To think that’s anything other than not great is “dumb”. If our offensive showing is that of either of those games, defense for that matter at GA, playoffs will be a short run. Argue all you want but Vandy nearly scores what we do per game in the SEC. Let that sink in. Our offense hasn’t found a rhythm. You can justify with orange emotions all you want, I prefer to do it with what we’ve proven over the last 12 weeks. We’ve yet to play a complete game 12 weeks in. I hope we put together this week. Hitting stride at the right time is always important. Now’s the time.

I have. No idea what you are talking about, you said that they weren’t ready to play in any of the road games, and I said yes they were. Not sure why you started talking about the home games, go back and show me where I said anything about them playing a complete game. They are 9-2 fixing to be 10-2 , nothing is ever good enough for some of the so called fans.

Whatever. Not going to spend a second thinking Vandy could win. I was raised knowing Vandy and Kentucky were automatic wins. For about 90 pct of my 40 year Fandom they've been automatic wins. I'm not about to change now. I'll never fear those turds or their mini quarterback. We're Tennessee and we are coming for him and his sissy team. Yall can fret over Vandy if you wish, I'll get my sharpie and mark the W.

Whole gameplan needs to be to stop Pavia.. Can't come out slow in this one. Vandy tends to hang around in games, and with the way we play at times it makes me nervous just thinking about it.
If Vandy drags us into a rock fight in the 4th quarter with the game still in doubt, then we better worry. That offense puts so much pressure on the defense to play assignment football, one bad read and they can bust a big splash play. I’m still not sure our young LBs may not bust some assignments. Banks and the defensive staff will earn their keep this week, attack that offense downhill hard to disrupt the timing and reads for Vandy QB. Our season is on the line Saturday in Nashville. Hope we have a good week of prep and stay healthy during the week and Saturday. Go Vols! Beat Vandy!

I want Pavia’s jersey to be bright green in the 4th quarter, if not before. I don’t want to beat this Vandy team. I want to annihilate them. They need to be taught their place once again.
No! No! No! Not bright green! we wanted to be more of an orange brown, most likely associated with the clay color. The green layer is on top, which is the turf/grass followed by 4 inches of a nice loam then by a loom clay mixture followed by pure clay at about 8 inches. 8 inches deep on the field is where we get the orange brown color that we want on both sides of his jersey. Don’t be gentle boys drill ‘em!!!!
