Jabari McGhee to WKU

If it weren't for the NBA player Tyndall inherited, which Barnes doesn't have, his team would have been garbage.
Josh wasn't considered an NBA pick at the beginning of the season under Tyndall. No one was saying "man Tyndall is lucky that he has such an NBA caliber player"

Everyone was worried that Josh had to play PG and not his primary SG role. Which a lot of people thought that Josh wouldn't translate into a PG, which he did.

When Donnie Tyndall became head coach at UT, no one had a vision about Josh Richardson becoming an NBA player. It was by playing point guard and demonstrating his defensive skills to go with his offensive abilities that made him a marketable commodity to the pros.

Along with Kenneth Faried, Tyndall now has 2 guys in the pro ranks. Had it not been for Tyndall's direction, these 2 guys may be playing overseas today. Who's to say?

Typed this response while speaking on the phone and did not realize that iKrager had already posted a similar response. Seems like people who disagree many times can find common ground.

Was not trying to steal anyone's idea!

Actually after the Sweet Sixteen run in which Josh played lights out, he appeared on many mock NBA draft boards for the next following year. This was before Cuonzo bounced to Cali and we hired Donnie.

He got there because of his defense, his athleticism, and his work ethic. Those things had all long since manifested when Tyndall was hired. I remember saying years ago, and I'm sure others did as well, that he was the most likely of Stokes/McRae/Richardson to stick in the NBA. The notion that Tyndall made him what he is is patently absurd.

His stock really soared when the pros realized that he could play defense to go along with his offense. He has already publicly said the role that Tyndall put him in was valuable in his being noticed even more by the professionals.

You evidently haven't seen the video where Josh gave Tyndall credit for putting him in a system where he could showcase his defensive skills. I assure you that it is out there and you may be able to access it through youtube.

He was All-Defensive SEC before Tyndall got there. Really flying under the radar.

This I think I might have even posted a mock right afterwards. I'll have to go back and try to find it.

This can definitely be said about all of the guys that Barnes coached that ended up being a pro bb player, especially Kevin Durant.

Worship Barnes all that you want, but he is a false god.

He has been interviewed several times while playing for the Heat and he always mentions Martin over Tyndall. If anything Tyndall's defense did little to nothing showcasing Josh's defensive skills because they are best in man-to-man.

The rosters were a wash

The schedules were a wash

One made it to .500 and one didn't.

Pretty easy to see who did a better job. How much better is the only thing debatable

wow mock drafts!? Skal Labissiere was the #2 pick on many mock drafts before this past season even started. And where is he now?

Don't act like everyone knew Josh was going to have this type of success when he first started playing PG under Donnie.

His defense was going to get him an NBA look regardless. We knew that after sophomore year of college. But no one knew he'd have the impact at PG he's making today. And to act that way is foolish imo.

The funniest post ever. Richardson has been a lockdown defensive player since high school. When he first got here his offense was almost a liability. He developed a lethal mid-range jumpshot and by his junior year his game offensive game really took off and even added a nice 3 point shot. Did you even watch UT basketball before your boy was here? Without Richardson, we don't make it to the sweet 16, or even get past Iowa in the play-in game.

His 3 point average was 22% his freshman and sophomore year. His FG % was 41%. His junior year he shot 34% from 3 and 47% from fg. He also improved his freethrow percentage by 10%. Josh was a defender before he developed his offensive game, which is still developing for the Heat.

Many people called it man. I didn't, but others did. Everyone compared him to Tony Allen and said he'd have a long career in the NBA. Most of the people didn't think he'd be playing as well in the NBA this early though.

Say what you wish, but the statement that he made concerning his days of playing pg is out there and his credit went to Tyndall. End of story.
