This is actually really good for Auntie Dee, Jabari McGhee and Willie Carmichael in my opinion. One thing that always stood out with Stansbury when he was at State was that he always got the most out of his big men. Renardo Sidney was known for being
immature, and having an attitude that most thought made him uncoachable. Aside from a fight with his own teammate in the bleachers before a preseason game in Maui, Rick got the most out of him.
Sidney is just one example, but an impressive one at that because he was a 4 or 5 star that could have had the gameplan built around him at another school. Yet when he played for Stansbury he was required to lose weight and work on his defense and became a really good shot blocker as a result.
One of the bigger concerns fans had about Rick at MSU is that to be successful he needed a deep bench at the post, which is what he will have at WKU. Whenever we played MSU back in the day Rick was good at using his post players to force us to the peremeter by blocking shots and playing physical in the paint. On offense he used his big guys to slow the game down, and usually tried to use up the shot clock each possession and get the ball to a big on the low post for an easy bucket.
Good for Jabari and Willie because they struggled with fouls here, but Stansbury's physical play in the paint will cater to their playing style, and their depth will give him a solid rotation to spread the fouls out.
