Jabari McGhee to WKU

I'm in agricultural sales. Have roughly 50 retail accounts in 6 states.

Sweet bro. Used to work for the man in sales too. Worked at a top 5 insurance MGA out of college, I had 5 internships w the same company during undergrad and they paid for my MBA, then started my own agency 18 months ago in North Indy. Sales is a great career, not for everyone but there is no better feeling than landing an account that you never thought you'd get. This whole month had been slow today and at 6:15 right before I left the office I got the go ahead to bind a large commercial account. So stoked. Completely re-energized me going into the holiday. Sales is a fickle thing.

One thing I miss about working for the man is shutting off my company iPhone at 5:30 everyday and not worrying about work. Having a business means having a payroll, taxes, staffing issues, etc. work is 24/7. But I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I've done decently well but at the same time I'm not sure if it's for me either. I don't have the killer instinct, go-go-go, never take no for an answer attitude and the travel is bout to kill me. I'm much better (and more comfortable) at managing/maintaining/servicing the accounts I have than one that's always trying to find the next lead and cold-calling daily.

First year the travel was cool to see different places. Now 3-4 nights in a hotel in rural AL or GA just isn't as exciting as it once was lol.

Cold calling is awful, I'll agree w you there. I mainly build my business by networking with people who can refer me accounts like mortgage brokers, realtors, bankers, car dealers, CPA's and divorce attorneys. It's tough building that network at first but it beats the hell out of cold calling and sending junk mail.

BTW, little cat, I can't stand you, pal. Your lips could not be further up half of the posters' asses on here.

Random insult, but thanks. I've argued with everyone at some point. If you're implying I'm kissing BGV's ass then that's funny considering him and I used to get at it over UK in the other forum.

How about headed over to a Western Kentucky forum and hanging out over there, little guy? Since when does the amount of time you've been here mean anything, pal?

Sweet agenda though, while we're at it... You've ruined your credibility on here by stating that vol basketball fans would give our left nut to have the history of WKU's program. Personally, I wouldn't give up a pimple on my ass to have the tradition of a mid major with only 2 guys in the NBA, who's lone sacred final four appearance from the Middle Ages was vacated due to cheating.

Done with you, pal. Reply if you must, but you're no longer worth my time, fella. Later.

Your arrogance is immeasurable! Because someone, who happens to know about what he speaks, has the nerve to suggest that another program might have some legitimacy, you go off on him.
And until the days of ESPN and their talking heads, there was no such term as mid-major. And FYI, Butler, Gonzaga, Wichita State are considered mid-majors, so that term does not mean the teams are not good. It merely means that they are not in conferences blessed by the P5 butt kissers at ESPN.
Pro players is not an indication of college quality. How many pro players does Gonzaga currently have? How about Xavier? These teams that beat UT recently must not be any good because they don't have 25 NBA alumni.
I have been a UT fan for over 30 years, but the arrogance of some VN posters is sickening.
There are a lot of good teams in the mid major conferences but the majority of them are never seen or heard because ESPN only televises the big boys.
And making noise in the tournament is tougher for these programs because only a conference champ usually gets invited. Mid majors with RPIs in the low to mid 30s have been left at home while P5 teams with RPIs in the 40s are invited.
It is a stacked deck fueled by money.
So continue with your biased and uneducated diatribes and snarky comments, but don't presume to act like you know what you are talking about.
I hope that you are a fan of UT and not an alum as your lack of reasoning skills would be a good endorsement of the value of a UT degree.

You are totally missing the point. Until the 1970s EVERY conference had ONE NCAAT invitation. WKU didn't have to beat any teams worth a damn to get their invitations. There's a reason why they go 28-2 and get left out. The 28 wins were against crappy opposition.

The fallacy in your argument is assuming that the teams in WKUs conference in 1960 were weak because they are now. And UTs conference mates were world beaters because they are now. ETSU used to regularly make the NCAAT and did fairly well considering their seeding, while FL probably the best, non-UK team in the SEC over the last 15 years was poor.
It is useless attempting to compare the power of conferences 20 years ago based upon the power of those same conferences today.
As another poster mentioned, the game has changed, particularly as it relates to recruiting and the power of TV exposure. A player from KY who 20 years ago would have attended WKU now goes to St Johns or Gonzaga, etc. because he sees those teams on TV all of the time and wants to play in that environment.

I have an MBA, if you're gonna go there. Good one. Really got me. You respond and LittleCat likes your posts. Cute duo you all make.

An MBA does not make you an expert on basketball.

It does mean you are an expert in talking a lot and saying nothing of value.

I have an MBA as well, so I can do that as well.

I got mine from UT, did the 16 month program 2 years ago. It does qualify me in basketball, MBA stands for "Master of Basketball Awareness."

Honestly, your negativity directed towards me is both ill-timed and ignorant. I say this because BowlingGreenVol and myself have squashed the beef and even found some common ground in relation to our professional lives.

The thing is, this is a forum. A forum where everyone agrees is both boring and defeats the purpose of having an outlet for various "members" to vent and express their opinion. The beauty of a forum is that people like us, fired up basketball fans, can be brought together in order to express our opinions. Myself and BGV, both passionate within our own arguments, traded blows for a bit but we both understood that everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and that an online 'fight' is both immature and never ending.

You can think whatever you like about me, I honestly could care less--just as I am certain that you would not heavily value my thoughts toward you. It's cool. At the end of the day this is a forum. Anyone expecting to dish out negativity in the direction of another in hopes of it causing their opposition to tuck their tail in between their legs and run off is highly unrealistic.

The thing is, I use this place as an outlet at times. I enjoy the confrontation, I enjoy stirring the pot and I enjoy rattling others up. Sometimes I'll call someone out just to see how they react, some might find it odd, but their reaction tells me a lot about them. Last night I called out Little Cat. I have no issue with him, just found it funny, and for him to give it right back to me makes me respect him more.

In essence, the fact that you are calling me out on here makes me respect you, but I would be lying if I told you that I am not annoyed. Annoyed simply because you coming at me in this context is about 24 hours late.

Merry Christmas too all.

For real man, I wasn't trying to argue for the sake of arguing, or trying to kiss any asses. I think WKU is a decent program. People discounting their success need to be careful.

BTW, "Couldn't care less"

Merry Christmas you cheeky bastard. No love lost for you or others. 2015 was a good year, even with all the drama.

In all honesty, it's really tough to stir the pot when Dallas is telling the truth/sticking to basketball only and BTO has focused on somewhat logical arguments of late.

For my sanity, it would be great if Senior Drill could return. I need some new material.

Dude please no. SD has been the worst thing since MemphisCanes. And even MC had logic.

Every now and then one of those in a WKU-type of conference is respectable. ETSU did in the Wade Houston era for example. But in general, the conference opposition that WKU has had to deal with has been garbage. That's why they took many of the "single bid day" invites to the NCAAT. Good for WKU. Somebody had to get those bids. It wasn't South Alabama or Troy or Murray State that dominated the rest. But if WKU had been in the BIG 8/10/12, ACC, SEC, or even the non-P5 Big East of the past... they would have struggled to not finish at the bottom year in, year out. Who are these awesome conference opponents that you speak of? Do you really believe that WKU historically ranks 25-30 spots higher than TN?

My old man is more pro-WKU than I lol. He's got 6 WKU degrees in the family amongst his kids and daughter in laws. Don't get him going. He'll make me look sane.

Let em disagree pops haha.

Merry Christmas too all.

Apologies. I do not read the basketball threads often as I am much more interested in football. Just stopped by to read the Jabari thread today and started from the beginning. So I did not know that you and BGV had smoked the peace pipe until I had already posted.
I just get so tired of posters belittling the accomplishments of any team not in the P5. Especially as it relates to basketball where numerous non P5 teams do very well. And the aggravation is amplified by the fact that many posters do not know that the landscape has changed in basketball, meaning many teams that struggle some now may have been very good in the past. Twenty years ago no one had heard of Gonzaga yet now they are considered by younger or uninformed posters as a great program (which they are currently but not necessarily historically). And unless you have dealt with the arrogance yourself, you do not realize how annoying that it can get.
I admire your passion. Have a safe and happy holiday! Merry Christmas!

When you went back and read all of the posts did you see the ones where TN is a 60ish all time program and the directional school is 30ish?

Now, you're about as short sighted as a one eyed out house rat, so let me lay one on ya.
If it wasn't for Ernie and Bernie and 6 years of Pearl, the average TN fan wouldn't even know there was a bb program in Knoxville. To make it even worse most could care less.
TN is a football school. Basketball is an after thought.

The same TN that built a 25,000 seat on campus basketball arena... the largest in the country? Alrighty then.

Very recent history DA. We're talking tradition.
You should realize that your biased opinion doesn't negate the opinions of paid analysts.
And that's just what they are opinions. If yours is different so be it , then stfu about it.

Lol dang Cal. Are the kids speeding in front of your house again, or walking on your lawn?

The same UT that did it just to be bigger than Rupp, despite rarely being able to fill it?

The first 19 years of existence (pre-Pearl) TBA attendance averaged 15,274 yet it held 24,535. In its history we've averaged 16,261. Having the biggest means nothing if you can't/don't fill it.
