Jabari McGhee to WKU

P5's don't have to fight harder, give me a break. P5's get 5-6 teams in all the time. The mid-majors have it tougher because it all comes down to the conference tournament. The whole season is meaningless for them. Murray State went 28-2 last year and lost the OVC tournament in OT and was left out. You think if UT goes 28-2 and loses the SEC final they're left out? How does that make it harder for a P5?

And yes, UK has doged WKU. They lost the last 2 times they played and took their ball and went home. Meanwhile UofL and WKU play almost every year.

You are totally missing the point. Until the 1970s EVERY conference had ONE NCAAT invitation. WKU didn't have to beat any teams worth a damn to get their invitations. There's a reason why they go 28-2 and get left out. The 28 wins were against crappy opposition.

So why did they win all those tourney games? Luck? You said before they SHOULD be winning those. I don't see your logic there.

You said P5's "have" to fight, that's the present tense form of the word. If you meant in the past then say P5's "had" to fight harder.

List them. How many came in the days with one invite per conference when teams weren't seeded and how many came when the field was opened up? The point is... they wouldn't have had half of their invites if they weren't in garbage conferences. No chance to pull off any wins, upsets or not, if they're not in. They have a couple of good wins... Probably one or two per decade. Even blind squirrels find a nut now and then.

WKU has a lot of stats. They came as a direct result of playing in sub-standard conferences. They're close to a Mississippi as far as the quality of historical play.

Every NCAAT so far is in the past. "Had" applies to EVERY NCAAT in the history of the NCAAT. Use your high falluting education and figure that out. We aren't talking about future NCAATs, to which only "have" would therefore apply in your splitting of hair. Use some common sense boy.

So a low tier beating lots of low tier teams and then having success in the tourney deserves no credit? It's not like they only won 10%. Or 20%. They are like 40/60 which is quite good.

I have a boner for a school I graduated from? Yes, that's pretty normal to be a fan of a school you graduated from.

You still a fan of the elementary school you "graduated" from?

I have an MBA, if you're gonna go there. Good one. Really got me. You respond and LittleCat likes your posts. Cute duo you all make.

Sure they get credit for aome stats. But a couple of big wins doesn't vault a member of crap conferences past every member of every power conference though.

WKU is a middle level program that played in lower level conferences. WKU would have been a bottom feeder if in the SEC or the BIG10 or the BIG12. Their conferences, Sunbelt and Ohio Valley, are garbage. Not even mid-major level.

So they beat teams like UK, KU, Ohio State but couldn't have held their own vs UT and UF? Ok. Trying to compare the "modern era" of college basketball to the past is futile. No one will say UT is not a better job or situation today than WKU. I'm not sure as many people would have agreed when E.A. Diddle was coaching Western, from 1922-64.

It's odd how many people apparently don't know anything about basketball....

The authors stated "Western Kentucky has a tradition and fanbase that almost any other fanbase in the country would envy." They forgot to say except UT.

You're talking about a past era and then use "has" which implies recent past/present. Sorry for confusion. P5's no longer have to scrap as hard to get in vs a mid-major.

Vacated wins at that. Kind of a turd in their punch bowl.

Be nice. Can't ever body have one of them there fancy WKU degrees.

Guess UT degrees are **** too since I have one of those. How did this turn into an insulting the educational aspect of an institution thread? After spending $100k on OOS tuition, I decided it was wise to go in state and live at home for grad school. Turned down better schools for economic/financial reasons.

Well you seem to really struggle with understanding why someone would be fan of an alma mater. Not a difficult concept. I have two alma maters, therefore, I pull for two schools: UT & WKU. UT always come first in my rooting allegiance.

Honestly, let's just squash this, it's all good man, it's done.

Agree to disagree on the WKU thing. Just one thing though, what do you do for a living? Just wondering.

BTW, little cat, I can't stand you, pal. Your lips could not be further up half of the posters' asses on here.

I'm in agricultural sales. Have roughly 50 retail accounts in 6 states.

I mean they were beating P5 teams in the NCAAT so....

Those are easy to pull off. They happen every weekend of every year of the NCAAT. Try playing that level of competition 15x a year and it's a totally different story. Wade Houston lost to Little Ricky 101-40... but didn't Wade beat KY just a few weeks prior to that one?
