Jalen Hurd at QB?

Nick Marshall, cornerback to quarterback. Went to the national championship. Could happen, don't know how well Hurd throws though

Uh yeah but Auburn rushes for what 500 ypg. And Marshall threw a bad pick that probably cost them the game.

OK - fair response. I have not hurd that or read that about hurd.

And just curious, does anyone in VN have any substantive proof that Hurd could not be a QB w/the right coaching?? And not just your personal gut feelings, but proof?

Anything is possible I guess, but in this case I think the burden of proof would lie on 'could he even play QB'. It has already been proven in high school football and his coaching staff's opinion that the best position for him is at RB. The recruiting services have him listed as a RB with a possible switch to LB or SS.
That should be proof that RB is most likely his best position.

During a bowl games this past week (don't remember which of the 50) one of the teams playing apparently took I think a wide receiver and turned him into a QB.

With Jalen's height and speed, has there ever been any talk of CBJ and staff exploring the possibility? I mean, it's not as if VN and the coaching staff are even close to being in agreement on a lock on the QB position for next Fall, so why couldn't Hurd be considered?

Hurd is too tall to be a RB, his pad level is too high. So this makes sense. He's got good height and speed for QB. Would probably be durable too. He's bigger than Johnny Majors.

NOPE! He stated CLEARLY in an interview last week (which one of our Volnation peeps posted) that a BIG part of his decision to come to UT was that he was promised he would NOT be converted to a different position than running back. So good, bad, or indifferent, he will line up at RB.

Another VN classic thread.

While were at it, lets move Malone to LB.

Coleman Thomas to WR to fill Malone's void...Coach Z likes them to block sooo...we'll get to the route running and separation in a later chapter :)

Only person I think we may see at some QB is Quez' North in a Wild Cat Package and that would be maybe 5 plays a year.

Still made it to the national championship.

True but Butch doesn't run a Malzahn type offense. If Hurd were moved to QB he'd have to throw it a lot more than Marshall does.

This is the SEC. You can't just put a RB who has never played QB before in there at QB. I know this is just fan speculation and it is the off-season but I can't believe some people actually think its a good idea.

I don't know about anyone else, but I believe that Hurd, himself, saying that he can't throw a football well at all in an interview is pretty good proof.

I know on my NCAA Football 14 game, Dobbs and Hurd is unstoppable and have won 2 straight national titles haha. Hurd just broke Barry Sanders record for rushing yards :D

Maybe some wildcat

Hurd played QB from time to time and was decent at it through years, but he has been and always will be a RB.

After the shoulder surgeries, he doesn't throw well. Labrum repairs can really affect QBs and pitchers. So, unless you're using him in a wildcat formation (which he's done successfully many times), he will not be playing QB - ever.

Define locked....VN will never be locked, the Coaching Staff Is locked. Jalen Hurd is locked on being a RB. What you fail to realize is that VN and the Coaching Staff don't have to be in agreement regarding anything.

Again is this a serious post? Or is your school cancelled today and you are bored.

How bout we just let him be a big nasty RB? Not sure why everyone always wants to move players into different positions. While we're at it lets try Aaron Medley at DE?

SIAP but hurd mentioned on an interview on 104.5 that he really can't throw a football that well, especially since his shoulder surgeries.

Personally, I really like Manny Moseley and D'Andre Payne playing DL in a 3 technique.... yeah they're small, but they're quick ...and wiry.
