Jalen Hurd Retires

Things definitely didn't turn out as Jalen and Co. had hoped. His career earnings came in just over $2.7mil in his 3 seasons.

Making $900k a year is pretty sweet but the guy is 27 and out of work. After living in the Bay Area and paying taxes, I'm guessing the bulk of that money is gone and the NFL pension won't kick in until he hits 55 or a mere 28 or so years from now.

Jalen Hurd

Jalen and his family/advisors definitely misled the kid over but so did Butch. He had the potential to add another 0 on the end of those career earnings rather than watch his dreams bottom out in 3 years.

Add it to the long list of reasons why Butch Jones is PoS.

When you score a touchdown and not a single teammate comes to congratulate you or acknowledges it, you must have done something to Piss everyone off. Can’t remember what game it was but I have never seen anything like it in college or professional where your whole team ignores you. That tells me something about him.

Kind of like begging your players to carry you off the field after winning an also-ran bowl game of no import.

Jalen Hurd quitting? Would never happen

I hate that injuries got him though but real talk, I have never seen a player just quit in the middle of a game before him.

How many yards was he short of the all time rushing record? That is all I can think about whenever he is brought up. Think about all this NIL $ that is being thrown around K-Town for ads. He could have stuck it out one more year broke all the records and he would have gone down as one of the best at UT and everyone would love him. He could retire today and come back to TN and make a boat load of cash doing advertisements. Oh well.
Maybe they like him over at Baylor?

Kamara who we now know was at least as equally talented if not more so and was forced to play behind Hurts had good reasons to quit and never did. However Hurts quit on us. How’ out Hurts take his search for glory back to Baylor, the school he didn’t quit on is my opinion. I can’t see the need for UT fans to expend the slightest of breath or energy on him at all.

One player has heart and the other one doesn’t.

That's no excuse to leave mid-season. That's quitting on your teammates and us fans. Life sucks sometimes. We all have bosses we don't like. His leaving did not serve his football career well either

It was probably easy for him to quit mid season because of how his teammates felt about him, which tells me all I need to know.

During the bowl game with Northwestern, a TE, first name Alex, last name I can't remember, served as the lead blocker for Hurd...This is the scenario he wanted so during spring practice coaches tried Ethan Wolf at that position of lead blocker but apparently it did not work out...My own personal opinion is that Ethan wasn't tough enough to be an occasional lead blocker...

When it all went down I thought the same thing; however, Butch Jones was never honest with Hurd. He kept lying to him so he wouldn't transfer. Hurd finally had enough. I can't blame him for that.

Jalen Hurd Tells All About Why He Left Tennessee Mid-Season | RTI

Thanks, Tman. I hope some of the people brutally critical of Hurd will read this and maybe have a little empathy for him.

I want to reiterate, "Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes".

You’re not wrong. That said some of these kids aren’t accustomed to making the right decisions. If this kid and others had leadership from the coaching staff and in the lockerroom it leads to better decision making and more team unity. Far too many on those Butch teams were playing for themselves and not the program or team. Doesn’t make it any better but I thought it’s at least worth mentioning

I will always be grateful to him for actively helping bring in one of those two really good classes Butch got.

And very pissed at Butch for blowing all that talent.

It worked for him for awhile at UT and then he got caught up in the collapse of Butch Jone's house of cards BS. I think he probably was part of the problem also, but at any rate, I am glad he had some kind of NFL career and I wish him luck.

There was a lot of talk of his (I think step?) father doing the helicopter thing, which seemed credible at the time.

Best of luck to him. He created some big excitement for a while. If there was a watershed moment, I would guess when he lost the ball while "showboating" in the end zone. Was it Georgia?
I get his attitude but the guy caught the ball, looked at the one defender and thought he was going to score so he carelessly let up because he didn't see the other guy. I just don't see the "showboating".
