Jalen Reeves-Maybin shot Sunday in Clarksville

What was he doing out at 2.45, I know he is young and all that but this day and time you are asking for something bad to happen at that time of morning.

First of all, we do not have all the facts and second, just because he was standing on the side of the street in the AM hours does not mean he was asking for something bad to happen.

Yeah, it's hard to believe that this was just a random shooting. IMO, which I hope is completely wrong, there is more than likely a reason for this shooting (obviously not a justified one), of which you listed one possibility above. The other that comes to mind is gang-related (not necessarly Jalen but whoever he was with), but this is PURELY speculation, and I really hope it's not the case. It's just hard to believe he was just sitting around singing kum ba ya and someone started firing.

Please stop speculating. There is nothing about this story that would make anyone think it was drug related. He was at a large party and some fool started shooting. JRM may have no connection to the shooter other then being in the line of fire. This type of thing happens pretty often and it doesn't mean JRM was doing anything wrong.

Butch Jones says Jalen Reeves-Maybin is back in Knoxville, attending class. "It was just an abrasion. He didn't even need stitches."

More Butch: "He got shot by a random bullet. It just basically grazed his arm."

Being reported he was hit by a stray bullet. He is back in class today. No stitches. All evidence suggests he was doing no wrong.

In before someone comes in with their PIPING HOT TAKE on why he shouldn't have been "out at a party", or whatever - It's not in any way his choice when and where someone else chooses to break the law. As noted in the story, he was a bystander.

Case in point: A few people were shot in downtown Johnson City near the Battery recently. It was tragic and unfortunate, but it doesn't make the bystanding citizens who patronize some of the great bars and restaurants in downtown JC culpable because they were "in a sketchy part of town". That's not how that works.

Glad he's okay and that it wasn't worse, hope he recovers quickly.

If everyone else is going to speculate so will I... This is what I believe the facts will ultimately show...

At a street party....at 2:30 in the morning.... definitely wrong place at the wrong time.

A street party? I highly doubt there was a street party at 2:30 am on Lavendar Circle since it's a quiet residential neighborhood.

Now that we know he was just grazed and is alright, I feel it necessary to point out that no "who shot JR[M]" jokes have been made yet. I'm disappointed in you, Volnation.

Once people know it won't affect his ability to play, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

That's what was reported on 104.5 the zone in Nashville earlier iirc. Either way, he was at a party at 2:45 am. Not a good idea.

please go.

Prayers for JRM

I'm pulling for the kid too. Somebody said wrong place wrong time and I agreed and gave specifics based on what was reported. Typically, nothing good happens when you're out at 2:45 in the morning. Hope he's ok, that heals quick.... and that he learns.

And thanks, but I went earlier...too much iced tea for lunch.
