Jameis Winston back in the news again

College students. I'm only a couple years from that and I still frequently recite memes I find funny.

This is one of those situations you won't understand until you have kids of your own in college, specifically a college aged daughter on a campus where the star QB has been accused of rape.

It won't be nearly as funny to you.

Is Jameis Winston a dumbass? Yes.

Is saying a couple cuss words in public really worth a suspension? Nope.

If he wasn't suspended for shoplifting, why suspend him for this? That's just dumb.

"**** her right in the *****". That's beyond a few curse words. It's a crude comment that's extremely disparaging to women.

Oh please. Is saying "Hey go suck a di**" disparaging to males? No.

Should you say it in public? Nope. Is he a dumbass? Yup. Should he be suspended? Nope.

This guy is a complete dumbass.... His own team mates are getting sick of his antics and rightfully so. This guy should have never been givin the Heisman. SMH

Again, it's not what was said. Well, it is partially, but it happens to be from the person that won the Heisman Trophy. And that award is given to the player that exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity.

Does standing on a table shouting what he said invoke "excellence" in any way, shape or form?

He's an ambassador of the sport. The student-athlete that is supposed to be held up for emulation for all others. And what example is he setting by doing what he did?

1) The Heisman Trophy means nothing here. If he finishes second last year should that mean anything?

2) Example? Dude was investigated for rape and shoplifted and nobody said anything about an example. Dude says a couple cuss words and all hell breaks loose. He's a dumbass. But getting suspended? Come on that's ridiculous.

It's a perfect storm of Winston's comments, combined with Winston's past, the timing of the comments given what's going on in the NFL, and finally Winston lying about what happened.

If FBS college football players are what students should look up to we are all screwed.

So you agree it's offensive, juvenile, and completely inappropriate to yell in a public setting? Then why should he not be suspended?

I see the point of asking if what he did was ban worthy but you are right in explaining why he got the suspension.

The other issue is school image - I guarantee they are hearing from alums and others that JW is an embarrassment and not doing something signals FSU is about winning at all costs.

I work with a huge FSU fan. He had just bought jerseys but he's socked them away saying he won't let his kid wear a JW jersey.

He also said he would love to see FSU get rid of JW all together regardless of the consequences on the field this year.

It's not offensive first off.

Second because cursing in public is something you should not be suspended for. I guess we would probably all be suspended.

trying to find some details on why the move to a full game and the best I can find is that JW wasn't entirely truthful in explaining what happened. Hard to image...

I agree as a stand alone incident it isn't suspension worthy but

1) it is offensive - standing on a table in a crowded room and yelling that would be considered offensive in just about any public setting

2) he clearly did more than curse in public.

I have not said anything about being suspended have I?

And about those "investigations" (I chuckle as I type) that were so thorough that FSU had to reopen the case. If I was the parents of that girl, I'd be suing the university and the police for every penny I could. Those were BS and you know it. I'd make sure everything was public in court as well because I'd love to get those cops on the stand and let them explain to the world why they laughed at the victim.

And for the record, I never agreed with him getting the Heisman anyway.

Completely different topic than what we are talking about

**** her right in the ***** is an extremely offensive statement. I wouldn't say that around a large group of women. It's outrageous.

He's not suspended for cursing. He's suspended for being an idiot and making offensive comments.

No, they most certainly are linked.

He's under suspicion for rape. Allegedly cleared. He shoplifted, not allegedly and was suspended by the baseball team. Now we have him standing up on a table in a crowded cafeteria shouting some pretty vulgar comments. And not only during a time when student athletes are all under the microscope, but during a time when ALL football players are being scrutinized.

You might think someone would be smart enough not to draw attention to themselves at this point in time.

Extremely offensive? Oh come on. Calling a gay man a "*********" is extremely offensive. A white man calling a black man "******" in a mean tone is offensive. Having a professional football team called the Redskins is offensive.

Saying "**** her in the *****"? Inappropriate but not extremely offensive

You started talking about how the investigation was BS which doesn't have anything to do with this particular case.

You don't think it's offensive to stand on a table in a public setting and shout what Winston said?
