USC is very much in the mix for WR James Green (6-4 200) of Tallahassee. He has offers from the Gamecocks, Central Florida, Auburn and Minnesota. He's also getting interest from Ohio State, Florida and Rutgers. Green said the Gamecocks are very active with their recruiting of him. "I hear from coach (Shane) Beamer about once a week," Green said. "The first think I'm looking for is academics, and then football. It doesn't matter to me about early playing time. I want to major in criminology." Green visited Florida, Central Florida and North Carolina last season, and he has been to junior days at Auburn and Florida State. He said he might attend spring games at USC, Florida State and Central Florida. He does not have a favorite. Playing for Krop High School in Miami last season, Green had 29 catches for 496 yards and seven touchdowns.
Lamar Scruggs out of Fletcher high school is a wide receiver with a college-ready body and offers from all over the southeast to his credit. At 6 feet 2, Tallahassee Leon wide receiver James Green has an impressive frame as well and plans to be at camp with offers from the likes of Auburn, Ole Miss, UCF and South Carolina in his back pocket.
The 6-foot-2, 202-pound Green, who is rated a 4-star and one of the nation's top 250 overall prospects, recently spoke with AU assistant coach Eddie Gran.
"He told me they need a big, physical receiver like me that can come in and run the spread offense," said Green. "They're going to throw the ball a whole bunch of times."
Green is excited about recently picking up an offer from Auburn.
"I've liked Auburn for a long time," said Green. "I've always liked them because they have good character and show great team discipline. I like (former AU running backs) Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown. There's a whole lot I like about Auburn."
Green has never been to Auburn but plans to visit the Plains later this spring.
In addition to Auburn, Green also has offers from South Carolina, Ole Miss, Ohio State, UCF and Minnesota. He's also receiving heavy interest from Florida State and Georgia.
Wide receiver James Green became a starter for Miami (Fla.) Krop at the beginning of his sophomore season and caught 18 passes and scored five times. He followed that up with a 25 catch seven touchdown junior season.
The Ohio State coaching staff saw Green in action while recruiting Krop linebacker Etienne Sabino and defensive back Travis Howard who both signed with the Bucks.
However Buckeye coaches now have to travel to Tallahassee (Fla.) Leon to check on Green. He transferred to Leon in February when his uncle, Lamont Green, took a job at Florida State working in the football department with player academics.
James Green expects the Buckeyes to stop at Leon next week.
"I think Ohio State is coming to my school next week to evaluate," James Green said. "My head coach told me that."
A number of other schools have done their evaluation and liked what they saw.
"I have something like seven (scholarship) offers," Green said. "I have one from Central Florida, one from South Carolina, Auburn, Ole Miss, Syracuse, Iowa State and I think South Florida."
Green made a big jump up to the #17 WR and up to 123 in the rivals 250.
