Jason Croom

Re-read my post. Then re-read it again. Don't ASSUME.

I don't like people ASSUMING it's o.k. to question a fan's ability or right to feel any certain way about UT football. PERIOD. Don't add or take away anything from that.

You may be over-reacting a tad, there are many posters on VN who do the very thing that you say is upsetting you. I'm not going to assume you know this, after 1300+ posts, I know you do.

Have you called them out, or do you just save it for parents of young men on the team?

While I kind of see where you are coming from, (Kurt Warner's wife comes to mind), the lady really said nothing inflammatory and you don't make it to a HC position at this level with thin skin. These guys are second guessed after EVERY loss by us armchair QB's and are paid handsomely to deal with the crap some fans dish out. Hell they are second guessed when they win!

I'm not about to tell you how to be a fan or what to post on a public message board, that would be ridiculous. While that sinks in, you just told a parent of a player, someone that has vastly more vested in this team than the average Joe on VN, what their role should be...

I respect your opinion, I just don't happen to agree with it.

I'm with you like most fans of UT football. Having been a fan, watching our teams for longer than most of the player's parents am just a little sensitive about being told that... I have no way of undesrstanding how a player should feel or that "we" haven't a clue about what it takes, etc.,etc.,etc. when in fact we all are capable of knowing what all this is like from an emotional standpoint. I'm pretty deep and can assure you that I do have an idea what it's like. It's not exclusive. Every one of us have a little something invested and I don't appreciate it being minimalized.

btw, I liked your post.

...Parents need to stick to raising their kids and let the coaches coach. Players need to play.

And fans have carte blanche to say any damn thing they want, no matter how stupid, cold and insensitive it might be???

If someone hides behind a fictitious name and says something about my kid that is ignorant and mean on a message board, you can bet your *** I'm going to step up.

I bet you would, too.

I wasn't going to respond to any of this, but ......

1) I always post as a "FAN" with "PARENT" perspective

2) If you felt as if I "MIINALIZED" you as fan, then you must be on of the ones directly contacting players, then you would be that person that I'm speaking to directly. Those are the ppl I have the issue with, or you're fool in the airport. lol :loco: in which case.... I meant exactly what I said.

3) As a fan, I'm just like everyone else. I sit in the same stand as everyone else, nor am I better than the next person.

4) Never have I said fans don't have a clue. I've only told you guys about what I see, hear and feel. Nothing more.

At the end of the day, we're all on the same team wanting and expecting the same goal. I was p/o this weekend just like everybody else.

So for anyone that's offended by what I've posted... OK

Croom is a redshirt freshman!
Redshirt.
Freshman.

I can't believe some of you are ready to call someone "overhyped" when they've hardly begun their Tennessee career.

Let's also not forget that in his 15 game career he's had two different head coaches, two different WR coaches, and two different offensive playbooks/systems.

Geez. Relax. The best is yet to come.

Stumbled across this and just have to put my two words in...they are....Robert Meachem. Busted out his Jr. year and went to another level. These guys will get there and I expect good things from Croom. Once we settle on a qb who can throw it things should start coming together.

You don't have to explain yourself to anyone on here MzT. As I indicated in my response to him, he was being an azz. If he can't see that for himself then no amount of responding will change that. Congrats to Jason on his first of what I predict will be many TD's as a Vol.

You have probably been sworn to secrecy but is their a qb in your opinion that can get it done and you or Jason would like to see leading the offense?

What kind of speed does Croom have? I would bet this: If he's got any NFL potential, it would be as a TE and not a WR.

he's still a 4.5 - 4.6.... even with all the muscle he's gained, and he's also grown an inch or so since last year... as I thought he would.. his father was 6'7

Goodness. Did he play basketball?

I've heard that is a requirement as well.

I don't mean this towards Jason at all, so pelase don't think I do.

But.... I said it last year under Dooley and I will say the same thing now. At some point the players have to take on some accountability for what happens on the field. Missed assignments in pass coverage, dancing around in the backfield instead of hitting the open hole, dropped passes, the list goes on. We all know they have been coached up on these things.

I agree though the play calling was suspect.

In my opinion if some changes aren't made this weekend at certain key positions then we don't have the head coach I thought we had. I know I will get some flack from that and a lot of "it was one game against the #2 team in the nation" but lets face it certain guys at certain positions just aren't getting it done.

Take it easy.

Petrino dropped 3 straight by 30+ in his first year at Arkansas and those teams were nowhere near as top-bottom deadly as current Oregon and 2/3 of those were at his house... not across the entire country.

So, don't get antsy after 3 games. Jones doesn't just have depth/speed issues... he has an entire team with a totally fractured mindset. For various reasons, these guys haven't won anything since they've been at UT.

You should know rebuilding their confidence in themselves and each other will take a long time over this season and will be a work in progress.

If you don't think you can... you won't. That's a hard lesson to teach.

A lot of it was injury and inexperience. You can practice all day long, have all the talent in the world, but you have to get the experience to get better in games. We have young talented players that just endured a trial by fire -- probably the worst trial by fire we've ever had to endure given all the circumstances (everyone in the passing game brand-spanking-new including the QB, 3 slot guys out, new WRs/new TE) against a great team and exceptional secondary. Did I mention the slot is our QBs best/most comfortable pass?

Every single one of these guys will get better and although I'm sure we will see changes as we find our various stars, the one thing I did not see them do was quit and most teams would have even those atop the SEC right now would've quit during that game.

That is the major take away from this game. Our team still has fight and will fight to get better. They don't like losing anymore than fans do and that is a very good thing for the future.

Thanks. They need to hear that from you guys. Their spirits were broken yesterday. As our expectations were as fans were set high, and the boys had the same for themselves. They went out and ran the same play repeatedly called to them. They have appreciated and accepted, bought into , trust and whatever else we wantto add into the new staff, so when we witness such a huge communication breakdown and the hiding behind excuses of who's at fault, dont blame the kids.

shYt rolls downhill. The body doesnt function without a head....and chickens will run around with their heads cut off.

One last thing, and this is not about Jason. ! But as a parent of a player. Dont tweetand facebook players your personal thoughts how they did unless its positive.

Remember our boys are working their asses off to entertain you. Just a lil inside thingfor you to consider.

This is Jason typical day real talk:

7am class

Study

practice

lunch

Studyhall

Film

study homework

shower

sleep 11pm

I mightget acall between the lunch and walk up the hill to say hi if itsmy day, his dad, or my mom

why would a fan want to bash our guys under any circumstances? They give a lot to Tennessee. They earned those schollys some of you really need to be more conscious of your behavior on social media towards our team. Other schools read your messiness and what we say here matters

Well said MZTERRY.

I am overwhelmed at the fact most of VOLNATION's post were so negative this week. We should realize the depth and other limitations our team is plagued with. We would have needed every absolute miracle and break to beat Oregon.

To turn around and pull up volnation and see these threads acting like it was supposed to be a super close game is just amazing.

We have big challenges in injuries, QBs (with experience) and a brand new scheme. Anyone who would come on here or twitter or facebook to bash a player is a fool.

Thank you for all of your insightful posts and support. Your boy is going to have a great year and career.

this scares me. lack of communication between the coaches really does make more sense. did anyone see the 15 play plan?? well we probably had about that to get the first TD then they kept running the same ineffective play. GOOD LORD. i understand why CBJ doesnt want to implicate any of the coaches in the media--would not be good at all--but seems like he was being awful hard on someone with his post game comments...and I don't particularly like Justin Worley in his performances even other than Oregon though I'm EXTREMELY CONFUSED as to how you cannot coach the gatorade player of the year into a at least an EFFECTIVE QB. and this is coming from someone who really really wanted him out since the WKU game.

I understand where you're coming from, and you're right, we have been through a lot and it's frustrating as hell sometimes when we have days like Saturday, wonder wtf happen, after the game we see our kids spirits just broken down, we feel their pain, read the boards, and 95% of the parents read these boards; 80% actually post and y'all just dont' know it; you just happen to know who I am...... We're all fans of UT football at the end of the day, families are just more vested, and I respect your opinion.
Interesting...
I hope you are not surprised by the fact.
Perhaps he's surprised by the fact that the person making the point vented about our coaches?
He's a she, and what I meant by "interesting" was the thought that a large number of players' parents post here.

I've been a parent (aka mother) of an NCAA athlete, and it aged me something fierce.

Props to any parents of Vols posting here, and thank you for letting them be Vols. :hi:
