Jason Shay resigned at ETSU

I'm actually waiting for the athletes to walk off the floor or field to protest whatever it is they protest...Then you will have another huge can of worms to deal with...
They will probably be stupid enough to do it in the future. It would be short sighted on their part to hurt their long term financial well-being but it wouldn’t surprise me if they did.

It's a tough argument, no doubt. Piss off the players and they quit....Piss off the donors and they quit!
In this case they have done both. My wife has a friend in their AD. Ticket purchases being cancelled left and right, other sports athletes saying they are walking, videos of alumni taking diplomas down. This is ugly for them.

This I will not happen.

It is much easier to do nothing (kneel for the anthem). If you walk off and dont play, you have to have some type of result that is finally reached that you say allows you to play again. But since most cant logically point to what they are even protesting, it is impossible to point to the result needed.

It's coming, just give it time...

I'm hearing the same thing from the booster side. It's not a pretty situation.

All of this cancel culture BS is way out of control. It’s disgusting how so many are such triggered pussies these days.

Why? Because the basketball coach quit?

When the kneeling stuff first happened, I was offended. Now I'm just kind of "whatever" by it. What really offends me is how athletes claim to care, but most only show it at game time. Not many are "protesting" on their own time. They always do it when they're on someone else's time. If they care that much, why aren't more of them protesting away from the game? Just seems kind of hypocritical to me, like it's more for their own publicity than a cause.

Are you looking to see if they are protesting on their own time?

Lost control of the team. They disgraced the university and the region by kneeling in disrespect of our nation. The community, the donors and fans were done with him. He had zero furure there. Predicted this weeks ago. Good riddance take the kneelers with you.

Now we have a certain Lady Vols coach that needs to say goodbye.

Maybe but living in the area I have other ideas. Im wondering if the back lash he got for allowing his team to kneel at one point in the season had anything to do with it.
I’m originally from the area, too. COMPLETELY lost control of the team after allowing a kneeling by players during the National Anthem at an away game at UTC. They never did it in Johnson City for a home game. Shay publicly defended the actions and ETSU was greeted with 100’s of season ticket cancellations for 2021-22 and some of their biggest donors demanded his departure in lieu of their money departing. Began the season 8-1...knelt...finished 13-12. He was given the “opportunity” to resign.

Im not sure if he lost the team, or they just werent actually that good, but thats beside the point. As someone who thinks the kneeling stuff is dumb I dont hate the decision, I just wonder what the cost is going to be? Right now its cool to be woke, and im sure the media will be all over ETSU for awhile. Sometimes you just have to play the game.
