Jason Shay resigned at ETSU

Those same veterans fought and died for the freedom to peacefully protest. I would venture a guess that not many died in the name of the national anthem. Again, that’s just a guess.
Most soldiers live and die for their brothers beside them. Patriotism may get them to sign up, but brotherhood brings them to battle. Doesn’t matter the country or the cause. It’s always been that way and always will.

The generation I grew up with, there was no such thing as banning Dr. Seuss books, tearing down/removing statues, removing TV shows off the air because it was considered “racist”.

I get along with everyone no matter what your skin color is. I just never thought this country would get to this point where kneeling has become a common thing.

I don’t think I’ll ever get used to this but what can I do.
I understand. I didn’t vibe with most people especially in college either when I first got there but I think I changed a little since. I definitely got some of my conservative views from my father but those views have slightly changed since after meeting new people throughout life. I still think it’s dumb to cancel Dr.Seuss or Tom and Jerry but I get it. It’s more of a product of their time. I probably won’t get used to everything but like you said “what I can I do”.

I mean so was I, and I still do. Grew up an Army brat, and now both of my brothers serve. Others weren't raised that way, or grew up and found out they didn't care about the symbolism as much, and so they don't. That is part of the beauty of America, the government can't compel anybody to perform any sort of patriotic ritual if they don't want to. The people banging the drum the hardest for individual liberty lose that zeal when people (often black people) want to exercise that liberty in ways that upset their sensibilities. Kneeling before the anthem is protest, undoubtedly peaceful protest, and everyone should want to protect people's right to peaceful protest

I understand that most of these kids are just replicating what they see professional athletes do on tv, but it baffles me how neither can see the hypocrisy in their actions. The college athletes are going to school for free because in this capitalistic society people pay to watch them play basketball. If people stop paying to watch them play basketball then there will be no more scholarships. As for professional athletes the hypocrisy (or indoctrination, or ignorance) is even more baffling. They are literally getting payed salaries in which they make more in a year than an average person makes in a lifetime, yet they are not happy with the country they live in? Only in America do athletic performers get paid in such a manner, yet they can’t stand for the anthem because their oppressed? Give me a break.

I know personal experience doesn't equal fact but I'll say the people I know that are the most vocal and "upset" about this didn't serve in the military at all. The people I know that did generally are mostly indifferent, with the strongest reactions being they don't particularly like it but it doesn't really "offend" them. And some even say they wish people would stop trying to speak for them.
It is my personal experience that most people who have served are the ones who generally are most upset with it and not indifferent.

You're gonna force Americans to stand just because it's a sensitive subject for you?

If true, good for whoever forced him out! The flag, to a lot of Americans, represents freedom and the men and women who fought and continue to fight and die for the freedoms we enjoy. People have a right to protest but they should choose another venue to express their opinion whether I agree or disagree.

Players, coaches, and educational leaders need to learn RESPECT for opposing views. During a sporting event, this is a
time for competition that fans pay money to see. I do NOT CARE what their political opinions are right, left or in the middle.

Glad to see consequences to those who cannot show basic RESPECT to others!!

Great to see Americans force other Americans to behave like good little sheep just because someone is super sensitive over a piece of colored cloth. Sheesh.

Absolutely disgusting and shameful if he was asked to resign because of supporting his player’s right to kneel. I’m not saying I support the kneeling, I am neutral on that whole subject honestly. But, to have him resign because he supported his players and didn’t cave to pressure is embarrassing and good luck getting young men to commit to your university in the future.
I'm lining up with what you are saying right here.

You are wrong about that. I find that it pisses the people that were too afraid to serve off a lot more.
From the people I have met who served and even those who didn’t serve, they don’t like the current trend of not standing for the National Anthem. Most are middle aged or older like myself.

Nobody can claim to be tolerant if they screech about somebody else’s behavior and demand they conform to some arbitrary response that they agree with.

“America” isn’t easy it’s hard. If somebody isn’t breaking any law and just acting in some fashion you don’t like then ignore them and move on. Stop demanding conformance to your own personal views.

Glad you threw in the "a lot" and not "all" Americans. BTW, after what you've seen in the last few months, do you want symbols of freedom or real freedom? You guys seem to get more worked up over this damn flag issue than you did the damn election...

Then remove politics from the event all together.

Right wing snowflakes engaged in cancel culture.
