Jay Graham should have been the highest paid non coordinator on that offensive staff,

Tell me who has more SEC experience on the offensive side of the ball than Jay Graham?

That is what I thought.

Jones totally disrespected Jay when he paid Zach Azzanni more than him.

Azzanni for one dingbat! Great Rep while coaching at "FLORIDA" and then at "WISC". Urban Meyer had no SEC experience until he came an won a few games, sheesh. I'll take overall experience(years coaching) as in all the other coaches have been at it longer than CJG (some have been wih CBJ longer than CJG has been coaching) and have won a bunch of games. It's CBJ's ship to sail, let him do his thing!!! GO VOLS!!!

it is that simple. None of those coaches are better than him or have a better reputation in the south than him. Real hard for me to believe no other coaches approached Jay about jobs before FSU, but he stayed out of loyalty to the university during the transition.

Perhaps no other coaches contacted him because he isn't the best coach on the staff.

um i respectfully 100% disagree. in two years weve not recruited and landed one SEC caliber qb. we have shown improvement yes, but we had a manageable running game ranked BEHIND CANDY. some of that is on chaney, he would get xboxxy when we shouls have run.

with our ol we shouls have been 2nd or third in conference.

thanks jay, best of luck.

but chris treece said it the best today. go get the best recruiter that will land fiv star talent and help tennessee get back to being at the top with UGA, bammer, and gators.

whatever it takes. this is a silver lining iyam

No he stayed because he had to pay back $112,500.00 if he left before 2-15-13

1.-Tennessee needs power RBs. In two recruiting seasons, tell me who the great recruiter Jay Graham, the RB coach brought in.

2.-Can you show me that the improvement in YPC by the Volunteer RBs last season was not due in large measure to the much improved and more than adequate offensive line?

3.- How many yards did the RBs get on their own after breaking into the backfield, compared to say the last 10 previous campaigns?

4.- How many long rambles for 1st downs, 15, 20, 30 yds did the RB's produce on their own after busting through holes provided by the line. A line that many say will be close to the best, if not the best OL in the NCAA this coming year.

So, it can be easily argued that some of the credit given to the RBC should go to the OLC instead.

Also, tell me which SEC caliber power RBs Jay recruited that have yet produced anything. Their are other schools where freshmen have stepped right in and contributed in the SEC. Jabo Lee is a scat back, not a downhill runner-(yet-he may grow). And he was picked up last minute when Jay whiffed on at least six or seven other candidates.

Although I disagree and think he should be given 4 to get stability and find the assistant coaching mix he truly wants and have a team of his own recruits, CBJ is going to get three years to make this work. Every one of the assistants has to be prodcing now.

If Jay was this great recruiter, why were schollys left on the table?

I have to ask, was Jay Graham producing all that much and earning his keep right now?

I like Jay, but if I were running a business, it's all about the numbers, and they don't lie. I don't care about the karma surrounding someone. Karma kept Bowden Wyatt here several years after even my dad, a childhood friend of Bowden's, thought he should go.

1)Marquez North,Justin Meredith,Riley Ferguson,Malik Foreman,Paul Harris,Jabo Lee,Jalen Reeves-Maybin.... (Thanks Jay)
2) Duhh I would think a year in the weight room would make any o-line better
3) Dooley ...who would play hard for that clown. many times this team didn't
4)You should ask Butchy about why Schollys are Left...He is the one in charge

Do you hate that he left because of turmoil?

Or, because of the turmoil that his leaving created, you hate that he left?

I'm seriously asking. That's been an assertion by some here, and I'd like to know if there is any verifiable sources concerning turmoil on the staff, and within the program.

Bad choice of words on my part. Should've said angst or something on the part of fans. Not any turmoil within the program cause I don't think there is any. My bad Crush.

Uh..... The title of your thread?
Tennessee Vols Football - Jay Graham should have been the highest paid non coordinator on that offensive staff,

That's how I read it...

I don't think this is going the way GiveHimSix wanted it to go. Maybe if he steps up the aggression level a little bit....

He's too busy stomping his feet over a coach he has most likely never met...He obviously couldn't cut it on Butch's staff so he moved on where he doesn't have to work as hard.

This is starting to sound way too much like all of the "upgrade" crap last offseason.

Business. Not Personal. Why Tee was smart not to take the job here because one day he would need to leave to advance and people would question his loyalty to his alma mater.

Money wasn't the issue here. We countered and were prepared to match what FSU threw at Graham. He left for the "title" of recruiting coordinator. He did not earn that title here. If he had earned it, he would have the title, simple as that. Give me someone who wants to earn it than someone who wants to be given the title. I don't care if you just grew up watching the Vols on TV or if you won the damn Heisman in our uniform. You're gonna earn it under Butch.

One extreme to the other with this post.

Even more simple: If you're at a place you supposedly love and feel like you're being underpaid, go ask for a raise. Forget that you already got a 15% raise when the new guy came in. If you think you're worth more, go ask it.

That, of course, assumes that you're exactly where you want to be, a shaky assumption for someone who has had 8 jobs in 13 years.
I have to think he wasn't real happy about coaches who haven't even proven their chops at the SEC level...coming in and snagging the money Jones was given to hire BIG FISH assistants. So they get HUGE raises, while he gets a modest raise and is still the 2nd lowest paid assistant. Probably saw himself as much more proven at the level, and saw Jones treatment of him, as a holdover, as something of a slight.

I'm hopeful regarding Jones, but I'm still pretty upset at him transplanting most of his Cincinnati staff. Nearly as bad as it would have been if Dooley did the same (bring in La Tech guys.

It sucks, but I don't blame Jay one bit.

JG was paid a reasonable salary for his body of work as a coach. FSU needed a RB coach so they offered a little more and CBJ tried to match it. Alot of people want to bash our coaches and talk about how they did not deserve this job/money they were given. I would only question (2) coaches. Elder and Mahoney have alot to prove IMO. The fact that they helped CBJ win some titles at previous stops make sense that he feels they are quality coaches and can get it done here. Also the fact that the transition should be easier with coaches who have worked together. The rest of the coaches have NFL/SEC coaching experience except for Stripling and he coached at Michigan and Michigan State. Every coach we have has coached longer than JG has except 1 and JG was paid more than he was. Kind of makes sense to me.

If I were choosing a new RB coach, I would seriously go after a huge name HS head coach looking to make the move to college football. Find a guy in Texas, Cali, GA, FL, or even a local coach(TN) who would be highly respected through the HS ranks and I think it would be good for recruiting. JMO

Pipe dream

Exactly. Before long some of these people will wanna change the name to "Graham/Neyland Stadium".
I wish it would have worked and I wish Jay would have been willing to work. But he's gone now and we will be fine.
