Jay Graham should have been the highest paid non coordinator on that offensive staff,

show me????? Azzani (Wisc/Fla) pretty good rep,Thigpen, pretty good,Martinez really good,etc... Two seasons coaching a position of need and what rb did he bring us? I saw one of his rb's wearing a blue practice jersey? Any coach worth his salt would not want his players labeled lazy!! He played here and played on good Tenn Teams, for that I'm thankfu., You cannot show me a reason for thinking he was any better coach wise than any of the other assistants. Like Chuck Smith,he was a great player an VFL,but replacing him did not cause problems. Let CBJ do it his way! GOVOLS!
As much as it hurts to lose Jay, your post is totally on target.

IMO. It hurts to lose JG because he's JG. A loved and respected former UT football player. That's really about the extent of it though. I actually even kind of understand why he is making the move. He is moving to a FL school. His job as a recruiter is going to be a lot easier there than it was here. Lots of in state talent, and a lot of them want to stay in FL. Realistically, for the most part at least, he will be recruiting against FL and Miami. Here he was recruiting against everyone.

Look, If JG doesnt want to be here then see ya later. Lets get a guy that wants to be here. I'm not mad at him, you do whats best for you and your family and the coaches here will do whats best for Tennessee and the team.

Short, sweet, and accurate.

Funny thing is, if CBJ had not retained Jay not nearly as many people would have taken notice. Just the nature of the business...cleaning house after a head coaching change. He'll land on his feet...

Dooley wanted to be at UT. That worked out well.

You'd think every poster on this board works for UT (or their respective alma mater), because to ever leave and do anything else is blasphemy, right? Hell, I left the state after graduating UT to pursue opportunities that me and my wife couldn't turn down. Am I a sellout traitor as well?

By UT (actually VN) standards. Yes. Yes you are. :p

I think the mentality around here is that people can't believe that others might make a different decision than them because they took different pros and cons into consideration. Reminds me of a few threads I saw here (or TOS) where people couldn't fathom that Dobbs might want to go to a top 5 engineering school. I wanted him in orange and am glad he is, but I could forgive a dude for doing what's best for him based on his own goals. I wonder sometimes if half the people around here have any goals or if they live vicariously through every athlete and coach affiliated with their team.

:) Gets tight up in here when we lose like we have lately.

it is that simple. None of those coaches are better than him or have a better reputation in the south than him. Real hard for me to believe no other coaches approached Jay about jobs before FSU, but he stayed out of loyalty to the university during the transition.

I don't know why he left and neither do you. Loyalty isn't a big factor for most college assistants. Maybe he's the exception... but I really doubt it. He's a professional looking to make the best salary he can and advance his career.

That said, he did a really nice job improving the RB's last year but I don't think you would call it earth shattering. He was in on a number of top shelf RB recruits... but didn't convince any of them to attend UT.

I'm not saying he's a bad recruiter but which big time recruit other than maybe North did UT get because of him?

If you are UT fan then you have to ask yourself the question: Are there better RB coaches/recruiters available for the kind of money FSU gave him?

IMHO, there are. Great player. Thanks for the memories. Thanks for making RB's NOT the reason UT stank in '12... but best wishes on your future endeavors.

 Now THAT...is a first rate post!

Tell me who has more SEC experience on the offensive side of the ball than Jay Graham?

That is what I thought.

Jones totally disrespected Jay when he paid Zach Azzanni more than him.

If you ever get into business you will learn that it is not the one who has been around the longest, or is most popular, but the one who does the best job and most dependable that deserves the most money. Coaches should be judged by same criteria.

I believe Jay Graham clearly showed that his heart is not at UT. From his past record, he will probably not completely unpack his suitcase at Florida State. I expect him to be ready to go when the rubber begins to meet the road and he has to produce.

Just my opinion. Glad he went now rather than later.
