If the dude IS going back to his car for a gun, you think a locked door is going to stop the lead from flying through the house where I and my family would be cowering, waiting for a police response that is 10 minutes away?
Far safer for all concerned to take the dude down while he's unarmed and low-threat, assess the situation, and go from there.
But you do you, m'dude.
Amazing how so many on here are making assumptions about what happened based on 1 party's statement to police...a lot more could have happened in this encounter especially when the other party has not issued a statement. I will reserve judgment until this plays out further.
I've been accepting the consequences--good and bad--of my decisions and actions all my life. I'm good with doing it for another 20-30 years.Really want to make that argument? OK....
If you're going to base your violent actions on what might happen you'd better be prepared to defend those actions somewhere down the road.
...
The implied insult is uncalled for, though....

You must do the same. If my words stung and felt unfair, maybe think about WHY they stung.
Go Vols!
Agreed.... however....
Here's where you (and McCullough) lose me....
You could, y'know, just could, lock the door behind the fool who just accidentally opened your door and call the cops if you think he's going for a weapon. Maybe NOT go the Kelly Bundy route? You know.... swift and blinding violence?
Why is so much of our society today predicated on responding to actual mistakes with violence? And glorifying it???
And you, like McCullough, will be arrested and charged (as you should be). Then spend the next however long part of your life defending yourself in court, have it hanging over your head for the rest of your life, and maybe, just maybe, put any chance of earning the privilege to play a game for outrageous sums of money at risk and never having to worry about where your next meal is coming from (both literally and figuratively) ever again.
But.... you do you m'dude.... You do you.
I don't know what you mean.Oh, I've been accused of having a "tush hog" attitude more than once in my life.....
Like to think I've learned something as I've gotten older, though..... As I've mentioned before, we frequently have to learn our lessons in life the hard way. Some never learn 'em, though....

Dude you have no idea what happened, nor do I. You’re relying on the statement of some drunk moron. And I’m all for punishment if someone is out putting themselves in a bad situation. This guy went into McCullough’s apartment, said something admittedly then got his ass kicked.Really want to make that argument? OK....

I'm simply pointing out that McCullough could have taken a much better route to handle the situation and will now have to suffer the consequences thereof.... If his door is locked in the first place ain't a single one of us knows about some drunk clown trying the knob. If he simply locks the door behind said drunk clown, most likely the same result. Going after him in any way, shape, fashion, or form, even if he never touches the drunk ***, only escalates the situation and this time it resulted in someone getting hurt. He'll now have to answer for that, we all know about it, and it reflects poorly on the team.

This isn't a "football" thing for me. The incident itself likely ends JM's career at UT regardless of how it turns out. It turned out that AJ Johnson wasn't guilty of a crime. The accusation still ended his UT career and marred his life.
No way of knowing what went down. This will end up being nothing though most likely. Just too many weird factors in it IMO to take away a kids opportunity. They entirely could’ve got into an altercation inside the door that spilled out onto the steps. 100% guarantee a guy that’s drunk and says some Bs to someone after entering their house isn’t the guy that’s going to give you the truth. It will be interesting to hear McCollough's side to this story. He didn't talk to the police which any lawyer will tell you is the smart move, but I'm curious if the person that was drunk and wondered into his apartment will be charged with trespassing, or public drunkenness'.
Jaylen is in the wrong here if he punched someone down a flight of stairs. But the guy was drunk, what if Jaylen punched him at the door then the guy fell down the stairs?
See, I actually don't agree with the "intend" bit of that homespun/Justified wisdom.
You should certainly be WILLING to use the weapon if you draw it. But you don't need to have the INTENT to kill the other guy. Sometimes brandishing a weapon is a remarkable deterrent all on its own.
Yes, Raylan Jennings looked awesome when he said he never drew his weapon unless he intended to use it. Looked great. Go Hollywood. But he was remarkable for his quick-draw ability and his marksmanship. He could afford to hold off until the very last second.
And he was fictional.
Those are not necessarily words to live by in the real world.
If Zion came into the room uninvited then he should get his a$$ knocked out!So in summary...
What we know:
1. This Zion guy intruded into JM's residence.
2. Almost certainly, JM punched Zion in the face.
3. Zion fell down the stairs.
4. All accounts are that JM is a high-character guy, and an unprovoked attack would be extremely out of character for him.
What we're unsure of:
1. Was Zion too drunk to describe the incident accurately?
2. Was JM drunk or was he clear-headed?
3. Did Zion escalate the situation at all?
4. JM or his GF's side of the story.
Especially if the guy's blood alcohol level shows serious impairment of his ability provide a valid account of the ENTIRE incident. Like you said more data please.
Thanks for hoping on my behalf. As for me, I don't much care either way.Sure hope you live in a jurisdiction that doesn’t have brandishing laws on the books.
LOL... are you serious? You didn't even stop at "might". You ASSUMED the situation was exactly the same as yours.Really want to make that argument? OK....
If you're going to base your violent actions on what might happen you'd better be prepared to defend those actions somewhere down the road.
How do you KNOW? Were you there? Has someone secretly recorded JM's side of it or provided you with the testimony from every witness? You don't know that his actions weren't fully justified. But yes. Unfortunately whether right or wrong he's going to have to suffer the consequences of something stupid initiated by the "victim" you're so concerned about while JM was sitting in his place bothering no one.I'm simply pointing out that McCullough could have taken a much better route to handle the situation and will now have to suffer the consequences thereof.... Is this really going to be the hill you’re going to choose? All the more reason to not follow some drunk dip**** out the door in the first place, huh?
