Jaylen Wright going pro

I know the RB position is devalued . . . but it's crazy to me that a sub 4.4 guy who just ran for 1,000 yards in the SEC projects as a free agent. Hopefully he turns heads at the combine and makes some money.
Not just that he will go undrafted .... NFL Draft Buzz has him as the #34 RB and #428 overall player. If that's accurate, Jaylen Wright wouldn't be drafted if there were 13 rounds. There are only 7. He is nowhere near being drafted.

You never know .... Arian Foster wasn't drafted, and he had a nice career. He could still make a roster.

I get it. Hopefully the projection proves wrong and he's able to sneak into the draft.

He has something to work for now. He will prove them wrong.

Where was Gibbs projected last year? Pretty sure it wasn’t as a first rounder. What if he goes to the combine and and runs the fastest time by a RB? He might ended up getting drafted and offered part ownership in the Raiders. Seriously. It’s early, he didn’t get a chance to put up huge numbers due to the system and it only takes one team.

I bet he runs a sub 4.4 which should increase his stock big time.
Given what he accomplished in track coming out of HS and what he's shown on the field a sub 4.4 would seem entirely possible and a low 4.4 practically an expectation. And you're correct that would help a lot.

Look what Draft Buzz already has him at though .... 4.31/40.

Yet, they still have him as an undrafted free agent, anyway. I think it's a reflection of just how much attitudes about the position itself have changed.

You may be right and it is probably my UT bias. There is still a combine for him to showcase himself though.

That may be true but the decision players make is about the injury risk and not even getting to the NFL Combine vs the chance of improving their look for the NFL with another year of college.

If you're right about where he is, another year at TN probably isn't going to make him a top 20 RB or even put him in the 7th round. Our run game with Heupel is consistent but the flash is at QB and WR.

He's going to have to fight for it at the Combine and not risking injury with another college year is a no-brainer.

Safe to assume he's quitting on his team before the bowl game?

I refuse to use the PC term "opting out", it's quitting on your team.

Running back class is pretty weak this year.

Not seeing another Bijan Robinson cracking the first round in any mocks so far at RB. Brooks from TX and Benson from FSU seem to be getting the most love.

Good move for Wright and I wish him the best. Looking forward to seeing him on Sundays. Hope he ends up running behind a good line.

Even if he is undrafted, it's common for undrafted RB's to make a roster. He will definitely get a shot somewhere. RB's just aren't respected like they were in the days of Emmitt Smith and Barry Sanders. They're viewed as interchangeable now.
