Jeep Wrangler Unlimited - Any Owners?

VOlinbham...

I used to own a two door jeep, no ac, tent windows, etc back in my 20's. I love it but it was really loud on the inside at speeds over 55.

I was looking at a new Unlimited Rubicon X.

With the normal doors that have power windows how loud is it now at speeds at 55 with a soft top and with a hard top.

I have heard the new ones are a lot better insulated for noise too...compared to the old 90's jeeps.

Thanks.

We just took my Unlimited to Jax with the hard top... No noise problem, even over 80mph and with knobby off-road tires. The new tops are very well sound-insulated.

Can't comment on the soft top as I haven't gotten to use it yet.

I am planning on going with the dual tops but will probably only use the hard top late November to early march due to the weather here in TN.

That's my plan, as well. It is nice to have the hard top for longer trips with the family, too.

I only have the soft top (premium top - canvas). Pretty quiet actually.

Polyfill in, and it's a huge improvement in sound.

been planning to do this - glad to hear it is worth it.

did you do the Dynamat lining in the speaker enclosures? Have seen that recommended but will probably just to the poly and see what happens.

No, just polyfill. $7 and maybe 30 minutes. I didn't do the dash.

I saw a jeep with Kevlar paint.

Anyone seen that in person?

I am thinking of getting a white jeep and storm troopering it.

The kevlar came from the factory and looked cool.

I did the Spring top conversion Sunday. Getting the soft top stretched for the first time was...a lot of fun. Love the look of the soft top, and it really isn't noisy at all.

Anyone have experience with upright storage carts for the hard top?

My Spring conversion is going to be taking the top off completely (not just down). Picked up a Spidershade for some sun protection and a Trail Cover to throw on if I'm out and it might rain.

I do like the soft top overall - I have the premium which is a brushed canvas.

We just got in a 2012 soft top coupe. Man that top is a beach to get off!

I've put it up and down twice now, and it's not bad once you get the hang of it. The biggest ordeal is taking out the windows. I'm looking into rolled storage options. Also, picked up a phone mount for the front dash tray.

Looking at front bumper options... Can't decide between the full stubby recovery bumper with stinger or just adding a big police-style bar and brush guard with light mounts.

Yeah, I'm moving from down to completely off.

I have the bag for rolling up the windows. Works decently enough. I decided to avoid all that though and go full topless and use the trail cover to keep water out when I park it outside. I have Safari Straps for the back so provides a bit of theft protection if I leave anything in the Jeep.

During the Fall I was keeping the back and side windows out and using the Sunrider top option.

Top down ride in to work was chilly, but the ride home and to dinner was N I C E. I'm really enjoying my Jeep.

Any advice/recommendations on a sunshade/bikini top? I was looking at the Alien Sunshade or the Rugged Ridge Eclipse.

Just picked up some small relocating mirrors and foot pegs :)

I like the updates, that your continuing to modify and customize
The only thing that gets more customization is a Harley

Have Fun

Have your doors fallen off yet? Seems to be a common issue with the wrangler. I see a lot of them running around where the door has fallen off.

Surprisingly enough, none of the jeep owners I confront about this issue seem concerned. If I were them I would write a heartfelt letter to fiat chrysler demanding a set of replacement doors!

Yeah, they fell off last weekend, but I had to put them back on in case of rain Monday. They are really looking shaky and it looks like the problem may recur tomorrow evening...that's what the foot pegs are for. :pirate:

This problem goes way back to before Fiat/Chrysler owned Jeep. I'm not sure why they haven't fixed that problem yet. My '97 TJ has the same problem. Doors fell off and top fell off about the end of March. Parts to reattach won't be available till sometime around September.
