Jeff Walz not coming

She never did... but if there is evidence of tampering? That should be an exception. Dawn Staley blocked the transfer of Kelsey Bone to certain schools. It's a step you should take if there is a valid concern.

Agreed, and had she wanted to go to an SEC school, there would’ve been issues. She knew Maryland would never been on the schedule, so why not let a player go where she wants to when it’s very unlikely she will have to play against Tennessee.

Staley blocked Bone to all SEC schools, which is why TAMU was the destination, when they were in the Big12. They joined the SEC the year Bone was eligible.

Higher budget for wbb. More resources for recruiting. There are several ways to entice someone to stay without raising their pay.

Also, no, Tennessee didn’t throw out those names. Message board posters threw those out. Walz to Tennessee rumors were around in 2016 while Holly was still the coach. Google them.

First the topic is now, not 2016. Walz contract was about to be up and renewed in Fall 2016, then they extended and gave him raise after last year's NCAA tourney. No in many cases supposed sources threw out names from various media that cover TN sports.

have you bumped your head kellie played with a lot of fire and passion when she played for ut and if she is named the h c here im sure she will coach with all the passion she played with.
What does that have to do with the price of crack in Harlem? Holly was a great player for UT as well (actually better than Kellie Jolly). Holly also made 3 Elite 8's in her time here. It would be a mistake to allow the emotion of one tournament run by a former player dictate such a critical decision for this storied program. The coach in question should have a proven track record of success. Kellie Jolly Harper does not.

It’s a big decision. Does she want to be constantly compared to Pat. Is it good for her family. Several factors can go into this decision.

Also, like I said, I expect other interviews, but not until next week after the Final Four.
So essentially Phil is waiting on her to make a decision? Man, I hope that's not the case!

First, Holly was never in danger of leaving in 2016 but he still put it out that he would be interested in the job if it was open. You don’t think Louisville took that as we need to give him a raise or we will lose him?

Second, covering TN sports are not Tennessee people. They are no different than the people who threw out names here. One day it’s Walz, next it’s Wes Moore, then today it’s Carolyn Peck and Melanie Balcomb.

I don’t think he’s waiting on her to make a decison. He is going to interview others. It would be crazy not to.

That being said, you can interview 1000 people but won’t fill a position until you hear from the one or two people you really want.

If Kellie is hired i think Phil Fulmer will be retired when it comes time to probably fire her in 4-5 seasons. Another Athletic Director will be the one firing her and looking for another Tennessee women's head basketball coach.
Nope, Fulmer will still figure out how to suck more money out of His school. He will still be here whether the football program and ladies basketball continue to tank. Well maybe in five years he’ll figure he has enough. Hope whoever we hire makes me wrong.

So if she wakes up tomorrow and says "Phil, I want the job". Then what?

No surprise, we will get a cheap coach. Athletic department went all in on the football program. I like football better anyways 😉

When in the past decade have we ever gone all in for football? We went from 1 cheap HC (Kiffin) to another(Dooley) to another (Butch) to another (Schiano) to another (Pruitt)???

UT is a public university so they're going to vet and interview multiple candidates before they make an official offer. But it won't drag on. They're prepared to hire quickly.

Look at all the new coaches this year dummy

And we're still in the bottom half of the league in combined salaries paid to HC and coordinators

The buyouts were paid cuz we hired cheap coaches who were in over their head..

I doubt that. We have two coordinators making more than a mil, an OL almost there and the second highest paid S&C in all of football. You sure you’re not reading an outdated list?

If UK (who makes significantly less $$$) can pay their football and basketball staffs (combined) more than us, we can afford a coach not from the bargain bin....

Not disagreeing with that assertion, but it’s also not the one I was addressing. We were talking FOOTBALL coaching staff salaries. This isn’t your Dave Hart Vols.

Bama, AM, Auburn, UGA, UF, LSU are all ahead of us. Just missed out but neck and neck for 7th spot out of 13 since Vandy doesnt report.

Duh!!!! No kidding. I realized that once I was aware of his buyout & his salary
Women basketball doesn’t generate enough $$$ to warrant that buyout & salary

Some of those can’t be by much. Bama forks out for HC AND assistants. LSU pays Aranda $2 mil as DC. A&M, Auburn, UGA and UF pay their HC 6-7 million but their assistants less than us. If Pruitt succeeds and gets a raise, we vault most of them. This is new HC finances. Fulmer’s spending some money!

Hopefully Phil will spend a big lump of cash on the women's basketball program:cool:
