Jimbo Fisher

My issue with Jimbo is this. I feel his agent is alot like Les Miles agent, he flirts with another team and Miles gets more money and an extension through 2019.Jimbo is not feeling the love at FSU, thats not a secret, he wants to be wanted. And FSU will step up. IMHO, he wont leave FSU. Unless he wants out of the Bowden shadow, I think he he will stay.

If we make a good offer and he turns us down thats ok but, I want Hart to at least try to get him! I do not want to spend the rest of my life wondering what could have been!

29-10 as a head coach, 2-0 in bowl games (one against an SEC opponent) had top 10 recruiting classes his last 2 years (#1, #2). Not trying to pretend this guy is an automatic fix to a complex problem, just saying perhaps hes not such a bad canidate to maybe build some stability. :twocents:

I agree. I think he would do well here. He's a better candidate than Strong, Fedora, Jones IMO...

So I don't understand everyone's thought process, we just had Dooley for 3 years and at this point everyone agrees we was a waste.
Sorry but no... everyone doesn't agree with that. Someone had to do some bleeding. From 07 to 09 UT experienced three consecutive whole recruiting class busts. Someone had to come in and rebuild the foundation of the roster. Dooley did that. He didn't prove he could coach on Saturday... but you can't honestly look at the dramatic improvement in the players on the roster the next guy will inherit and the one Dooley inherited and say it was a "waste". Someone had to do that dirty work and just as well it was someone who quickly proved he came up short on gameday. We can now take a good roster to a guy who will hopefully win some games.

Then everyone gets all excited about Gruden and we can all understand why would be a great hire on nothing else but name alone. He turned us down now people are saying Jimbo Fisher and everyone acts like he would be the worst hire known to man he recruits well and as long as we don't play Wake Forest we will be fine IMO thoughts?
Anyone who "expected" Gruden or any other individual to be the HC was just setting themselves up for disappointment. I think you have hit on something here though. People get excited over one guy and think that some how disqualifies every other possibility. Any of the guys being discussed could be a good hire minus a few like Tressel who would be completely outclassed in the SEC.

I asked this in another thread but ill ask you here. Not trying to flame, just looking for some discussion. In your opinion do you think UT will be an 11-1 10-2 type of team with Fisher or do you think they will be an 8-4 or 9-3 type of team?

All the above. 8-4 type season when his recruiting cycle starts over having to play younger players. 10-2,11-1 seasons when his boys are experienced. He's proven he can recruit against the big boys. And yes he's had some bad losses, but every coach in America has. Fulmer lost to freaking Memphis only to go on and win a NC. He's only in his 3rd year, so in theory he's actually a relatively young coach. FSU is a pressure cooker of a job compared to Louisville or UNC. I think a pretty good prep course for a big time SEC job, JMO.

nope acc is entirely different from the sec. end of thread. thanks for playing.

So only a homerun hire who is a HC in the SEC right now is acceptable, right?

OK guys... who do we want... Saban or....uh.... uh.... Saban?

I say 'eff it... Just throw 10 mil/year at Saban, tell him he's on the hook for at least 6 years and after that, Haslam will give him the keys to the Capitol Bldg or the Browns, whichever he chooses...

Give me Jim Mora Jr. UCLA was in a pretty sh*tty situation at the end of last yr and now they are 9-3 and playing in their conference championship. Sounds like a great coach and a winner to me. Boom. Done deal.

Well he is in a better location for recruiting high profile players, he has a very talented team (more so than the current or past few years of the vols) yet he can't breeze through that joke of a conference (acc). So if everything lines up better for him with players, experience and an easy conference that he gets beat , then the sec will leave him 6-6 or 7-5. Now thats a pipe dream. Lol

Your offense is ran on your strengths, if Bray, Hunter and CP leaves i would guess that the run game will be used more, If they stay i would expect a 70/30 passing attack again.

What we need is a Defense!

We need to run the ball to keep our ****ty defense off the field, and the keep the defense honest.

I completely agree with the OP. A lot of great coaches out there and we're going to be sad because we didn't get a guy who hasn't fielded a team in forever? Gruden was more of a risk than Fisher or Strong.

For my money, I want Gundy. Already shown he can win, his tutelage can be traced to Mr. Majors through Les Miles, and he's 45 now...that means he's got 5 more years of man on him since he did the infamous speech (and there has to be a good PR opportunity using that speech)...He's got a fire in his belly and a hunger we haven't seen since the early Fulmer years (no pun intended). I think he's the guy. Flame away.

Patterson is a dream. More so then Gruden was. Strong, Golden, Fedora, or Fisher will be your next coach at UT IMO.

You are absolutely, totally wrong. Our next coach will be Jones from Cincinnati... Book it...

No one else wants this job...

I guess of who seems to be possible Fisher is my choice. At least I won't be ashamed of him as our coach (watch Fla St lose by 70 tomorrow now).

How is he over rated? He usually has a top 5 class in the ACC and usually ahead of alot of SEC teams he would do better recruiting here potentially and I'm not 100 percent but we probably spend more money then FSU on coaches so we could get him what he needs and I think he wants to win championships. No matter what he does at FSU his name will always be behind Bowden.

A great coach is a great coach? Who cares where he's been? Boise State ain't the SEC either, but Peterson is a great coach who has an eye for exactly the kind of football player who will play well in his system. Would we turn him down because he's never coached in the south? Hardly.

Jimbo Fisher took a program very similar to ours (proud past not so great lately), and turned them into a top-10 program quickly. If that's not good enough for you, then hire Fedora (who convincingly lost to Duke this year), and see how that turns out? We need someone who has proven they can get results. Fisher has done that. Franklin has done that. Patterson has done that. I'm on the fence concerning Strong, but i will say this about Strong, at least he has a winning record, which is more than we can say about Dooley ANYWHERE he's ever coached and ever will.
