Jimmy Carter Appreciation Thread

Just got finished watching American Conpsiracy: The Octopus Murders. For those that don't prescribe to conspiracies, you should watch this with an open mind. Four part documentary on Netflix.

Anyhow, Seems like there was alot of smoke and mirrors on how Reagan really got elected in such a landslide, and how $40 million was funneled to iran to keep the hostages imprisoned till after the election and only a few hours after the inaugaration ended, they were released inexplicably. The belief in the Reagan camp was privately said to be that if the hostage situation didn't go bad for Carter, he'd likely get re-elected.

Not professing to be a theorist, but to those that deny conspiracies exist altogether is equally dangerous.

And I started this thread a year ago because the end was supposedly nigh. And he's still alive. Dude's gonna live to 120.

I could have sworn he passed earlier this year..... Weird.

That said I think he was a fine man, flawed presidency, think he was too passive but for the right reasons if that makes sense. He was a political relic and holdout, his party got out in front of his core briefs and left him.

You're thinking of Biden's career.

Carter was a class act. One of the last statesmen that held the office. He was out of his depth as a president and couldn't connect his vision for another 4 years with voters, though.

what's odd is some who exalt him on the board share none of his class, none of his sympathy for those less fortunate, and none of his faith and works.

I have had exposure to some unique behind-the-scenes insights to Jimmy's term in office.

I never met the man, although my father did before he ran for Governor. Supposedly, Dad made the statement to the other farmers with him when they drove back to south Georgia that Jimmy would one day be President. He didn't vote for him. Not sure if my granddaddy voted for him or wrote in FDR again.

Jimmy wasn't much different from most politicians. He was just as adept at putting up a false front as any of them. He also had a little bit of a dark side to him with actions I'm sure he regretted tremendously later in life.

Even given that, he may have been the best ex-President we've had. Has certainly been a positive impact.
