Jimmy Carter Appreciation Thread

Managing the economy and standing up to the Soviets were problems he wasn’t prepared to address. Interest rates, unemployment, and inflation in the late 70s make anything today seem like nothing burgers.

But he didn’t cause the oil producers to create chaos. He didn’t cause the Iranian religious zealots to take power and seize US hostages. But he did get Sadat and Begin to work things out.
Deregulation was good for the economy and us consumers. Stagflation was an inherited problem that didn't taper off during his term. He wasn’t unique in not solving it.
How did he not stand up to the Soviets? As I recall he was pretty hawkish on them.

Jimmy Carter Was a Terrible President — and an Even Worse Former President

Carter’s true legacy is one of economic misery at home and embarrassment on the world stage. He left the country in its weakest position of the post–World War II era. After being booted out of office in landslide fashion, the self-described “citizen of the world” spent the rest of his life meddling in U.S. foreign policy and working against the United States and its allies in a manner that could fairly be described as treasonous. His obsessive hatred of Israel, and pompous belief that only he could forge Middle East peace, led him to befriend terrorists and lash out at American Jews who criticized him.
Where did you copy paste that from?

Face it, there was a string of bad presidents through the 60s and 70s that damn near ruined this country. Sad thing is we didn't learn our lesson.

I've done volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity for over 30 years... what about you Reagan hater?

What are you talking about with any of this? You're breaking your neck trying to avoid the point. I've not said anything bad about Reagan. He was fine. I appreciate your volunteer work. I don't appreciate you trying to use it as a chess piece in this conversation. No idea what it has to do with anything.

I mowed my neighbors grass 3 years ago buddy! What the hell have you done?

I stand corrected, to a point. He got 2 minor financial deregulation items passed, he errored in increasing the power of the Fed and increasing the FDIC limits without requiring actual money to cover those new limits.

I wouldn't call those minor at all. I think you would freak the **** out if Washington DC tried to cap interest rates so banks didn't have to compete.

Same holds true the other way, Harris is much more qualified than trump. Trump is no more than a grifter selling everything from bibles to tennis shoes out of the oval office, when he isn't on the golf course banking a $ million per weekend.
but kommie-la could not get your vote even if she blew through $1.5 billion faster than ...

Anyone trying to paint Carter as being a good President, much less better than Reagan is a complete buffoon. A new term—stagflation—had to be created to describe how bad things actually were under Carter.
Not to mention the malaise. I loved Carter the man. But as POTUS, not so much. Neither here nor there, but I still have the image in my mind of the front cover of Newsweek in Sep-1976 at my campsite in Glacier Park (highlight of my bicentennial, just graduated from UT, cross-country motorcycle ride) with drops of grizzly bear blood dotting the picture of Jimmy.
