JJJ and Julian going through draft process

Um yes.

Potential vs actually showing up are two different things
Question. Do you think Pember is better than JJJ or Phillips?? Because Pember’s averages are better than the two guys we just signed, and he did it in a slightly better league imo. Putting up numbers in a lower league means absolutely nothing. Will see when they get here, but Gainey isn’t going to start and Ledlum will be 3rd or 4th option more than likely. Love the signees, and I think the team will be better this upcoming year, but to say Gainey and Ledlum are “huge upgrades” is absolutely a wild take

Very true. I hope Phillips is successful no matter what he decides. Would like to have him back but it appears he was always going to be a one year rental. In my opinion, if he goes pro, he better hope a club is very patient with his development because he has a long way to go to earn minutes in the NBA. Has a lot of upside, but at this point it isn’t even close to being realized. So get used to playing in G-league, and work hard. I wouldn’t advise leaving if my son was no better than a 2nd round pick, but to each his own. He probably would get a two-way contract much like JD Davidson (another 5 star one year wonder).

Jaden Springer was more prepared to leave after 1 year in college, was a 1st round draft pick (which highly unlikely Phillips will be), and still after 2 years has only played a total of approximately 1 hr and 45 minutes in a NBA game. He was MVP in G League championship game and still can’t even earn mop up duty in the NBA at this point. There are a lot of seasoned veterans in the NBA who don’t give up their minutes easily, to new guys with “potential”.

JJJ produced, Pember didn't at Tennessee

JP hardly produced anything on offense

And it's not a wild take

Ledlum is literally one of the best players in America

With current roster, I can’t imagine how Ledlum would be any worse than a 2nd option. Guy has been a rock solid 17 to 19 pts per game over the last 2 years and didn’t need a ton of minutes to earn it. (30-31 per game). Considering how Barnes coaches offense he may even be a comparable option with Vescovi, given it is a position of need and we have more depth at 2G/Wing. If his FT% improves a tick, he could be a mid-teens PPG if Barnes picks up the pace on offense. Now that changes if we are lucky enough to get Knecht IMO. Knecht is different.

I'd certainly take one of them back, or Knecht, but I really think we need another option at PF. I think any of those guys should be able to play PF.

I think it's justified to be cautious about projecting transfer production from a mid to lower major team, especially the year after Tyreke Key.

Personally, if I had to choose, I would take JJJ and JP over any transfer because we know what we're getting defensively from both and both were injured last year; also, call me sentimental, but they both chose to be VFL's from the start and have been nothing but fantastic ambassador's for the University.

Phillips is not close to being a lottery pick unless he improves massively.
While I agree 100 percent with you, who in their right mind believes Will Levis is a Top 5 pick in the NFL draft but that's where he is projected in several mock drafts.

Not even close to being one of the best players in America. Book mark this and come back next season to throw it back at me if he’s averaging 14/7 or better. If he’s selected all-conference I’ll self imposed a 3 month ban.

He looks solid, but I don’t see his physicality around the basket producing at the same level in the SEC where there are a lot of tall strong athletes who won’t be bullied. Maybe he ups his 3 point production more? He’s not particularly quick in his highlights so those dribble drives will be challenged by the SEC shot blockers. He’s a great portal addition and should be a solid contributor but anyone expecting Grant Williams 2 will likely be disappointed. JMO, TIFWIW, AARP

Ledlum is not “literally” one of the best players in America. An argument can be made that he is likely the 4th or 5th best player on just our roster. Let’s not get carried away. He’s a role player, not a star.

Would love to get a scorer and keep JJJ as a role player for defense. No jacking up 3s several times a game. The offensive output this past season forced almost everyone to play beyond their scoring abilities, resulting in poor shots.

You ate assuming that JO is going to take a huge leap when in fact instead of progressing, he regressed later in the season

Ledlum had a huge game against Kansas and produced big numbers in the majority of his games

Gainey led his team in points and he was on a very horrible usc upstate team

I'll take the guys that have produced over potential any day.
Like Tyreke Key, right??
