JJJ and Julian going through draft process

Not even close to being one of the best players in America. Book mark this and come back next season to throw it back at me if he’s averaging 14/7 or better. If he’s selected all-conference I’ll self imposed a 3 month ban.

He looks solid, but I don’t see his physicality around the basket producing at the same level in the SEC where there are a lot of tall strong athletes who won’t be bullied. Maybe he ups his 3 point production more? He’s not particularly quick in his highlights so those dribble drives will be challenged by the SEC shot blockers. He’s a great portal addition and should be a solid contributor but anyone expecting Grant Williams 2 will likely be disappointed. JMO, TIFWIW, AARP
@Vols till I fall and @Sadie0051 could have a fun chat about Ledlum. Lots of common ground to be found on the topic by those two, I'm certain.

Ledlum is not “literally” one of the best players in America. An argument can be made that he is likely the 4th or 5th best player on just our roster. Let’s not get carried away. He’s a role player, not a star.

I'd put him behind Vescovi and Ziggy, but the rest? JJJ if he stays, but he's practically as inconsistent as ON.

Zakai and Vescovi are easily the two “best” players on our roster based on talent and experience, I agree. That’s why I said after that it would be a debate, but I think a case could be made that Dillione is now the most raw talented player on the roster. So, you could argue those 3 are the “best” players we have. I think a case could be made to put Ledlum 4th after Dillione, and after that it’s a toss up. I would also be willing to hear arguments for Mashack or Aidoo being ahead of Ledlum, but that is less clear, which is why I’d probably put Ledlum at 4.

You’re seriously undervaluing Aidoo. SV has been our best player but I suspect Aidoo would be the hardest to replace on our roster. Seven footers who can run the court, protect the rim, and shoot a 15 foot shot don’t grow on trees.

Julian Phillips, Josiah-Jordan James Testing NBA Waters | Rocky Top Insider

Not surprised, hope both return and numbers work out to allow it.
I don’t understand any nba team showing interest in Phillips. He did horrible this year and really shyed away from the big moments this year. NBA teams need to quit drafting this college kids for potential alone.. 90 percent of those kids get bounced from the g league until the rookie contract runs out and then they are done.. he absolutely needs another year in college , he couldn’t handle the jump from high school to college so him being successful in the nba right now is slim to none.

Imo, Phillips is looking for any reason to stay in the draft even though I don’t think he’s ready for the NBA anytime soon.

Hopefully he finds a team that will be patient long enough for him to get stronger and develop some offense. Otherwise, he’ll be playing overseas somewhere.

Not saying he is one but some players just hate the classroom regiment. I'm assuming he would get a good stipend from the collective if he stayed. The G league is a lonely existence with empty gyms for players that were adored and used to packed arenas', sometimes that can be a shock.

You said it, it's all about potential. Also, with the G league and International scouting, 1st round picks - outside of lottery picks - really aren't as valuable as they us to be and I would almost equate 2nd round picks to Undrafted Free Agents in football.

Phillips is going to be really good whether he plays for us or the NBA. He was not horrible this year. He was hurt some this year and adjusting to college basketball. He drew more fouls and shot a good FT percentage. He played good defense and he can rebound. Add some confidence and upper body strength, he will make some NBA franchise happy.

I think he had a good freshmen season and still has tons of upside. Now, I can certainly see the argument that he didn't live up to the 5 star billing but lots of 5 stars don't these days. Kentucky seems to have 2 or 3 every years that seem like non-factures.

Nothing about Phillips game this season says he’s ready for the NBA.!! IMO it would be a HUGE mistake for him to leave college. I love college basketball but I hate when kids get drafted off POTENTIAL!!
If a kid just averaged 8 points in college, struggled in the big games, and even would shy away in those games.
He needs to stay in college and develop, he’s not ready.
All he needs to do is have one good season at 15 ppg and he will be a top 10 pick in the draft.
He has crazy potential but until he figures out how to use his body and size against D1 competition he’s always gonna be a guy who gets ya 8 points a game off fast breaks and free throws.

Playing another year in college will not prepare Phillips for the NBA better than playing that same year in the NBA would , even if it is the G league. The only reason to stay in college is if he wants to. Not to mention the loss of 1 year of income. His playing days are numbered, as are everyone's. Why waste a year not getting paid when he is only one injury away. I hope he stays but college performance has less to do with NBA success than potential. The size and athleticism in the NBA quickly make pretenders out of college stars. Now is he really, really thinks he can jump from a late first round/second round pick to a top ten pick than maybe it is worth it but if he did have that potential than he would be a higher draft pick to begin with.

Even if Ledlum does surprise, don’t ban yourself for 3 months. You’re a solid poster.

Devin Booker player one year at KY and averaged 10 pts per game. By your reasoning, he should have stayed until he could average 15
