Gladly, if things fall into place (draws, venues, health, competent refs) this team can win 3 or 4 straight in the Dance.
You are correct. He hasn't done much in conference play and always disappears in NCAA gamesSome revisionist history here. He was perhaps our most consistent player thru our first 12 games, this year.
11.7 pts, 7 rebs, 2.1 assts, 1.3 stls, and only 1.5 TOs per game. All while shooting 43.6%/41.7%/75.6%.
The issue is the tale of two halves of the season. In the 11 games since then...
6.1 pts, 5.5 rebs, 1.9 assts, 1.2 stls, and 0.9 TOs per game. And plummeting shooting numbers, 35.6%/22.2%/77.8%. And those numbers include his best overall game of the season at UK.
No doubt he's been bad since the calendar flipped over, but over the pre-conference portion of our schedule, he was playing the best basketball of his career, and doing it consistently.
I will agree and disagree on that. You are correct. He hasn't done much in conference play and always disappears in NCAA games
10 points a game consistently would be fine. Most of that production was from one game. The JJJ in the LSU game is fine. He scored 8 points in limited attempts, the defense had to respect him, and drove inside when it was there. The other JJJ that disappears and puts no pressure on the defense is not getting us anywhere. Five rebounds and good switching defense doesn't overcome that.I will agree and disagree on that.
I'll admit he's lacked shooting efficiency in the NCAAT across six games (33.3%/21.8%/75%).
However, he's still averaging 10.0 pts, 7.2 rebs, 2.7 assts, 1.8 stls, 0.7 blks, and only 0.7 TOs in those six game.
On a better shooting percentage, I'll take those numbers from him all day, everyday.
Way off, my man...10 points a game consistently would be fine. Most of that production was from one game. The JJJ in the LSU game is fine. Oregon St. - 5 pts, 13 rebs
Longwood - 17 pts, 9 rebs
Michigan - 13 pts, 6 rebs
Louisiana - 8 pts, 4 rebs
Duke - 7 pts, 5 rebs
FAU - 10 pts, 6 rebs
You may need to re-read the post you quoted.
Sorry, I was mistaken about the six games. I thought he meant the last 6 SEC games and was using the Ky game to drive up the averages. My point is and has been that he needs to be a consistent threat to the opponents defense even if he isn't putting huge numbers. There sure are a lot of triggered drive by posters after every loss posting made up facts. Check my stats.
In addition, in 10 conference games, he’s shot a total of 8 free throws. Let that thought sink in for a while. He‘s our starting 4, who rarely gives us an opportunity to score in the lane. He’s just not a play through contact scorer. He seems to be a good free throw shooter, of the 8 free throws attempted he made 6, but I realize that is a small sample size. I’m sure the coaches have encouraged him to be more aggressive and attack the rim, but he just doesn’t commit to it. Plus when he drives, the defense does not have to help as they know he’s not going to attack the rim to score. His drives rarely provide an opportunity to kick to someone on the perimeter for an open look. I guess you could say the same thing with SV.10 points a game consistently would be fine. And that's a fair criticism. Saturday, particularly, he could have influenced that game by making it his mission to minimize Garcia's effect on the boards, specifically the offensive boards for A&M. But he got owned in that regard AND then offered nothing on offense, either. And still played 32 minutes being a liability in every aspect. That won't cut it.Sorry, I was mistaken about the six games. I thought he meant the last 6 SEC games and was using the Ky game to drive up the averages. Seems like alot to ask as he has averaged 5.8 rebounds per game and 2.1 assists per game over his career, which are both similar #'s he has posted every year with similar minutes. 8-10 pts and 5-7 assists would be pretty rare for JJJ. During conference play this year he is averaging 5.4 boards per game and only 1.6 assists per game, both of which are lower than Knecht. Which is surprising. If JJJ can get Tennessee 8 to 10 boards a game and 5 to 7 assists a game, any points that he scores is a bonus.
This is the rub though. In NCAA tournament JJJ is at 34.9% FG and only 21.8% for 3-pt FG%. Barely pedestrian. He is valuable in other areas but not a guy we can rely upon to string together a few games in a row. My hope is that we can comfortably get to the Sweet 16 and JJJ has one of those "moments" which helps us get to the Elite 8. When he is on offensively we are very difficult to beat. For his career (131 total games), anytime JJJ has scored 15+ per game we have only lost 3x. UNC, Colorado last year and against LSU his frosh year.On a better shooting percentage, I'll take those numbers from him all day, everyday.

Right, but he was 2 rebounds off of his career high, Saturday. Holding him to 10 would have been passable, but 17...that's indefensible. Like I said, JJJ had almost no effect on any other area of the game, notably on the offensive end. Playing 32 minutes, the least he could have done was make a better effort to keep Garcia from doing what he does best and keep him closer to his average. 9 of those 17 rebounds were offensive boards, so Tennessee's misses were of no consequence on those.Garcia has owned a lot of opponents on the boards. He had 16 three days earlier AT Mizz. He’s grabbed double digit rebounds 10x so far.
With TN missing so many shots and free throws, there are a lot of them available.
Yeah, I noted his percentages in my post. I wouldn't even call it pedestrian. It's just plain bad. He's got to be more efficient. This is the rub though.
