I don't think this was too much of a gaffe -- I could say the same thing, it's simple to understand why China has the policies they do, but it doesn't mean I approve of it in any way.

I don't know what factors are responsible for the downward trend, but I question your claim that teaching abstinence has "failed miserably" when things are trending downward. What do you have to support that statement?

I have no idea what he meant by that, but I can't imagine there are too many people on earth outside the CPC who are enthralled with the idea of mass scale forced abortions, even lil Joe.

My bet is:

1. He probably doesn't know how China implements the policy

and/or

2. He was in off-the-cuff pandering mode.

Either way it's a gaffe because his comments clearly suggest it's not something for him to criticize (eventhough admin policy clearly rejects the policy and it's implementation)

Why did Mexico say anything? Do you know how Mexican officials handle illegals from Guatemala? They'll rob them naked and send them on their way.

Probably because Obama knows that America is the root of the drug problem. Basic supply and demand. I think Mexico needs to look south and pass some blame down there, too.

Legalize weed here and Mexico's problems drop ~75% (give or take some more numbers I pull out of my arse). Hell, it has worked in Portugal so far (decriminalized all drugs and drug crime and dependency has significantly dropped).

I support China's decision to limit population growth.

I also support the forced sterilization of anyone that can't graduate high school without repeating a grade more than once!

LG weren't you the one that always calls out Palin on her supposed phrase "I can see Russia from here" statement about foreign policy? And if so, that just strikes me as a tad ironic that you are so up in arms about people scrutinizing someone (who is quite well known for his brain farts) that they don't agree with and what that person said.

Unfortunately, I agree with you on China's forced population control. If you leave it voluntary, China would have 3 billion people. Ultimately, causing mass food shortages. My friend is from inland China, she tells me that many of the country folks have 5-6 children, because it is hard for the government to keep track. Farmers want as much field help as they can get.

If I understand correctly the policy is limited to more urban areas and rural (farming) families are exempt or somewhat exempt.

Not sure about that. My wife's brother had his second child about a year ago, he was soon after escorted by the police to the local hospital for his vascetomy. He lives in the country.:eek:hmy:
