Joe Paterno is dead.

Sad... I'll be praying he recovers but I'll also be praying he goes to a better place. All the crap surrounding him and the program is messed up but without knowing how much he really knew or what all went down behind the scenes, I couldn't be excited about his death. It's not like he molested little kids and although times change and he has an obligation to report the stuff(if he knew, kinda sounds like he did), he grew up in a different time period. Not that it's an excuse but I really don't know how involved he was. Not like he was the one molesting the kids. Anyways... what a horrible way to leave life. I guess stress and losing something you love can quickly take a toll. Seriously sad

I tend to believe that Joe Pa knew fully what was going on. It was difficult for him because he was once Sandusky's coach when Sandusky played at Penn State.
He was also an assistant coach and eventually a defensive co ordinator for Joe.
Joe knew him for 3 or 4 decades. It was difficult for Joe to believe that a "friend" of his could be guilty of such a thing.
Also, in our society, child molestation is quiet common.
It is in the news everyday. When Joe was growing up,
that was almost unheard of. It was a real shock to him that this was taking place at all, much less, by his friend.
He was so shocked that he didn't take any action.
For example, there are probably many Buffalo Bills fans who liked O.J. The evidence would lead one to believe that O.J. did it, but them being a fan of his, would not allow them to grasp the concept that he actually did it.
I don't believe that Joe did nothing, in an effort to protect the Penn State name. I believe that he did nothing because he was too shocked to do anything. He was in dis belief.

All of this talk of him dying of a broken heart makes me sick. I think that makes him even look worse. Are they trying to tell everyone that the sad state of his program and the media reaction killed him?Yet he was able to live day to day guilt free with the knowledge of what he turned a blind eye to before the news came out? Yeah, great man.

How did he turn a blind eye? He told the AD. It's called a chain of command.

RM is quick to judge like many others even though THEY KNOW NOTHING of the situation. They know HEARSAY, which apparently is enough to convict someone in their personal court.

Because he was the head coach and could have fired Sandusky for one.

Sandusky was already retired when McQueary witnessed the molestation/rape/incident whatever you want to call it.

Joe Pa told campus police. Did he follow up? Obviously not. I have a hard time understanding how you could live with yourself if you were told something like that had happened and the guy wasn't arrested.

I'm sure losing the thing he did every day for 60 years sped up the process.

Then telling the AD was pointless then.

He told the AD because Sandusky still had an active involvement with the school. Both Joe Pa and McQuery have stated that he didn't tell him Sandusky was having sex with a child, just that he was exhibiting inappropriate behavior. Coach Paterno told the AD, the AD should have then looked into the incident, spoke to McQuerry and got the full story, filed a police report, and kicked Sandusky off campus until the trial was complete.

He admitted to knowing. I don't have to conclude anything. He knew and has told everyone he knew about it. A confession is enough to convict in any court. Glad to know you support these people. It's not up for debate, he kept it a secret for nine years. Hell, even Paterno has said he handled it wrongly. And yet you still defend this enabler of child rapists.

There is a big difference in not being allowed on campus, and just not at the football field for a camp where boys are at.

Sandusky was at no Penn St. football camps that Joe Pa was a part of. Apparently Sandusky was allowed to run football camps for young children at "other Penn St. schools". How is Joe Pa supposed to control what happens at "other Penn St. Schools". That is for the AD and President to take care of.

"Seven years later, in the summer of 2009, Sandusky was still hosting overnight camps for children as young as 9 at other Penn State schools."
