Joel Klatt says Vols might be left out playoffs for Bama

I was listening to the Joel klatt podcast and in last nights episode he said if Clemson beats SMU that SMU would stay in and Vols would likely be left out for bama to get in. Do you guys think that’s possible?
Joel Klatt can't predict the time of sunset. That's how terrible his articles are. He is just a clickbater.

0% chance the committee could explain why they left out Tennessee in that scenario. A 2 loss team from the same conference as a 3 loss team, and that 2 loss team beat the 3 loss team head to head and also beat the other 2 teams the 3 loss team was defeated by. Not to mention those other 2 games were at the same location.

The head of the CFP Committee already ruled this out. Said no team that isn't playing this weekend is going to shift in comparison to any other team that isn't playing this weekend. The relative positions of these teams are fixed:

- Notre Dame
- Ohio State
- Tennessee
- Indiana
- Alabama
- Miami.

Now, teams like Penn State, Georgia, SMU, Boise St, and even Oregon and Texas could move around among that skeleton. But relative to each other, Tennessee and Bama aren't moving. They will remain at least two spots below us, with Indiana (and perhaps one or two others) in between.

Go Vols!
Bingo. This is the only given in the final rankings. Everything else is either fear mongering or promoting false hopes for clicks.

I'm not going to repeat what others have said regarding the positioning of teams not playing this weekend, which is correct. There is 0% of this scenario happening. If SMU loses, it is either them or Bama, not both.

Ever since the SEC went to divisions, I've always thought there would be (multiple) chances for the Vols and the Tide to play (and us beat them) twice in a year. Could this be that year? After the OU loss, for them to get in is kind of a joke. I mean .....not even a touchdown for them. But it is what it is. I'd love a rematch with them.

Nope; they already said there would be no movement of teams not playing this weekend; UT is currently ahead of Bubba... as a result, Bubba can not move ahead of UT. Only teams that can move up or down are those playing games. (Hoping for big UGA and Penn St. losses a game in Knoxville on 12/20 or 12/21)
One guy said it and it doesn't make sense. If Oregon beats Penn State by 42 then PSU should drop below us and the same for Texas if Georgia walks all over them.

This CFP bracket is like NCAA Basketball Tournament. Everyone has a bracket and an opinion. This is just another take on something no one change but the committee. Ol Joe just throwing his two cents into the pot.

You didn't understand it, then.

He didn't say anything about Penn State not moving. Only that the teams who aren't playing this weekend won't move relative to other teams who aren't playing this weekend.

The ones who are playing this weekend, all of them can and will be re-evaluated based on how their games go. They can and might be moved in the polls accordingly.

So Penn State can fall. Or Oregon. Or Texas. Or UGa. How much and past whom? We won't know until we know, Sunday.

Go Vols!

SMU will get in even if they lose. Bama's out if Clemson wins. The winner of the Big 12 and MW championship games is in. And that's that. They'll probably be minor adjustments to the seedings, but we're probably set to play OSU @ OSU with the winner playing Oregon (which is a total screw job)

Yes I skipped the 'among themselves' part. I do think that the conference championship games could and should affect the data points of those not playing. For example if Oregon obliterates PSU and Georgia does the same to Texas we should move up against Ohio State. Go Vols!

Lol there is no way he said that. If he did, it’s dead wrong. We have a better record, we have the much better record against common opponents, and we won head to head. Someone would get United Healthcare CEO’d if that happened
