The head of the CFP Committee already ruled this out. Said no team that isn't playing this weekend is going to shift in comparison to any other team that isn't playing this weekend. The relative positions of these teams are fixed:
- Notre Dame
- Ohio State
- Tennessee
- Indiana
- Alabama
- Miami.
Now, teams like Penn State, Georgia, SMU, Boise St, and even Oregon and Texas could move around among that skeleton. But relative to each other, Tennessee and Bama aren't moving. They will remain at least two spots below us, with Indiana (and perhaps one or two others) in between.
Go Vols!
Again, that’s not statistically possible. You can’t leave half of the field static while not punishing teams that lose a conference championship game. There are teams currently not in the top 12 who could play their way into it which means that a team or teams currently in the top 12 would have to drop out. Consequently, if Clemson beats SMU, they wouldn’t magically jump 9 spots to take SMU’s spot at number 8 so that would have to reorder the back end of the playoff because Arizona State is at 12 and would be an automatic qualifier. Boise State is number 10 and UNLV is number 20, they wouldn’t jump 20 spots to number 10 either so a team currently in the top 12 would be out which again would reorder the bracket positions just like a three loss Georgia wouldn’t stay at number 5. They are talking out of both sides of their mouth to appease everyone before releasing the final rankings
