I just don't think KJH can recruit in the SEC. The Lady Vols names does not recruit itself anymore.

Tennessee still recruits it's self. We need someone that can teach and motivate the talent. I do not know or have not seen enough of Kellie to make that call; but that said, you would have to be senile (like me) to not recognize what a major accomplishment it was for her to guide her team to a sweet 16 birth. That said I would prefer Lawson. With her knowledge and contacts form across the country, I think she will be able to bring in a staff, that will be top 10 worthy.

Lawson as an influence within the staff, yes,,not as a HC though
You've got to know how to coach "this" game and how to run a business,, to HC
I would be for KJ over Kara for that one reason,,,KJ's done it in this realm

Kara Lawson has no experience and I think she would be a flop as Tennessee women's head basketball coach. Every poster on Volnation has an opinion why be snide about me voicing my opinions?

how would you know shes gonna flop? if you have such great knowledge, shouldn't you have Phils job

Question to those of you carrying the flag for Kara Lawson, if she had played for any other team besides UT, would you be so eager for us to hire her? (Hint, any answer to this question besides no is straight BS). We cannot let the fact that she played here cloud our judgement on whether or not she is truly qualified for this job (and she isnt). I trust/hope Coach Fulmer feels the same way.
It is a PLUS to her resume, not a bug!

I agree with all you said excwpt Tennessee will recruit itself. Lady vols are way past the glory days.

Regardless of who gets the job look at the Assistants they are the ones that mold the team on the court. Holly never picked anybody that could actually make players better they were all recruiters. Dean was with Pat and the last few teams she had were underachieving as well. Not as bad as Holly but think Assistants when you want to build a team on the floor. Get the top players then mold them we could do one and not the other.

It didn’t matter then. We barely had a team. It matters now.
Which makes Pat’s achivements in the early days even more noteworthy. Think of it: limited financial resources, no donor support, no established recruiting network, no television or radio exposure... in essence, Pat, with a few other pioneers, helped to create the foundation for women’s basketball. The next coach will be a torchbearer with several important differences: exponentially higher financial resources and support from UT administration, tremendous donor support, expansive recruiting channels nationwide, and vast television and radio exposure. The door is open for Kara, or whomever is named the next coach, to jumpstart our future glory days! Seize the moment!

How? How does the fact that she played here instead of another school somehow make her more qualified to coach a major Division women's team? It doesnt change the fact that she has zero coaching experience at ANY level.

She has coached high level of athletes with USA basketball. So she doesn’t have any college coaching experience.

I love Kara. I think that if she chooses to go into coaching someday, she will be highly successful eventually.

Having said that, there's a huge difference between assistant and HC. I've been both, and there's no comparison. The added responsibility is enormous, and head coaches are easily susceptible to tunnel vision (both during games and otherwise). It's a real thing.

Assistants often find it easier to see tbe bigger picture due to being able to observe more broadly and objectively. Read the HC comments in the posted article about assistants to see how valuable they regard assistant's input that can escape the HC who is doing a juggling act. Kara has a great bb mind and can break down games as an observer...and so can we sitting at home with a birds' eye view. Then go sit on the bench and see how different the view can be and how much faster the game seems.

I think Kara has what it takes to be an outstanding coach...someday. The program is not in a state that can take that risk or even wait for the learning curve to be conquered. As for experienced assistants shepherding her through the growing process, this isn't that situation. The HC is going to have to hit the ground running to stop the bleeding and plug up the holes in the hull. That means retaining incoming recruits and the nucleus of the current roster, immediately establishing the coach's presence and culture, etc. That's an almost impossible task for a rookie.

I’ve not been one to think this hire has to be a LVFL, but if we’re not going to get s proven coach (Walz, etc) then might as well go for a LVFL who will at least understand the history, tradition, and expectations.

No IVEY. Don’t want non LVFL assistants from other schools.

All the public names that I've seen appear to be a weak list for one of the top jobs. Just curious if any male candidates are an option as well. I don't think we should cave to all the "it has to be a woman" talk. Quite frankly I think that is what coy statements from Muffett and Mulkey also relate to. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think they come out and say UT should hire a woman but I'm sure they'd like to see it. I would kinda like to see it but more than that I want to see some type of track record of success.

I still hope Gale G. is somewhere on the list. It would tell me she is rejuvenated and wants this top job.

KLH...Former Lady Vol and has coached for several years...That has to be worth something.

Kara Lawson.....Fiery personality and former Lady Vol...Has not coached before, but has years of playing experience....Will have to learn the "delicate intricacies" of coaching on the job....Her name alone should be worth a 5 star recruit or two....

Niele Ivey...Not a former Lady Vol...Has years of playing experience and some give her credit for ND reclaiming their place at the top of women's college basketball....It is also said she is waiting for Muffett to retire, so she can take over....I'm not sure she is even in play, except on Vol Nation and the rumor mill.

By Fulmer delaying his choice, until the championship is decided, it is obvious he is trying to not only get the best coach for the Lady Vols, but to also satisfy the paying fans, which is the heartbeat of the program.....

All three of these choices are exciting to me....Each has their pluses, and minuses.
KJH...Has been a Head Coach for 15 years at 3 schools, has been named Coach of the Year in two different Conferences. Is one of only 11 Coaches ever to take teams from 3 different schools to the NCAA Tournament. This year took a team of mostly freshmen and sophomores past two ranked teams, and played very competitively against Stanford, an elite team. Kellie also was the point guard on 3 National Championship teams Coached by the GOAT. If I were a prospective player, I would have high awe and respect for KJH.
