John Calipari to KY (merged)

Billy saying he was "The luckiest guy in the world" was about as to-the-point as he could get. You need to take off those blue shades and rewind your dvr. You people are self righteous, and you'll undoubtedly ruin your next coach's perception of that being a "dream job".

Remember this, running off your coach after two years is not a sign of stability. Its a sign of delusional expectations and blue hairs with itchy trigger fingers. The rest of the nation has made note of it.

I do not understand why Cal would go to UK... surely he has enough cash.

Like I've said before, this is not necessarily about the money. I think Cal was sick of being disrespected for playing in C-USA for one, but there are numerous issues involved in a decision like this.

If Hyams said it then I dont believe it. I will trust you more, but since I just heard from the Memphis AD 5yr/25mil, I am going to have to trust that at this time because they have not let me down before.

Mine included all the perks not just the base salary.

You can always trust writerbeef88 :).

I am seriously amazed at how fast a lot of Memphis folks have already cursed Calipari and talked crap about him. I have heard at least 2 people at my work say he should be shot.

Its really been kind of fun

I don't pretend to know Coach Cal. Will his ego be bounced back to him with the likes of Pearl and Donovan within his same division? He has basically been the lone voice and image of C-USA. I can't name another coach in that conference.

I have read that he has a rivalry with Pitino. Is there bad blood? He will be coaching in his shadow of Pitino's success at Kentucky. If he is successful, will he not be compared to the "Pitino Years"? Will he be able to handle that? I know money settles all and this is probably why he makes the move but there are some potential pitfalls waiting at Kentucky for him if his ego is not checked a little.

Who was he disrespected by? Just some of UT fans on the board that called their University "little brother"? His OOC and success in the tourney speaks for itself.

I guarantee it wasn't a respect issue. He's gained enough respect from his FF and championship game appearances.

And I would hardly say Lexington > Memphis. So what does he gain out of it? Just a bigger check book and the crap that comes with the delusional Kentucky fan base that drove Tubby and CBG off. Also Memphis has better facilities to use and he is their greatest coach ever - he'll hardly be that at UK. So he'll get to play in the SEC instead of C-USA... the SEC was barely better than C-USA this year.

Money matters big time. But also lets face it. This is KY basketball we're talking about. One of basketball Royalty

In Memphis, I might take those threats seriously.

That's sad. Unreal.

Our coach was not doing his job as required in the contract that he did NOT sign. Its not about x's and o's. Here at Kentucky you have more requirements as a coach than just giving people something to do between football seasons, my friend.

If UT made the lane Kiffin announcement during halftime of the orange/rose bowl and I said the same thing about your program, you would get your panties in a wad.

FYI, I am not self-righteous nor do I wear blue-tinted shades. You can pretty much ask any other vol-fan on this forum, if you want proof.

So continue to say what you want, and go on your personal crusade against me and other Kentucky fans. I am leaving now, so I can't continue this arguement. So have fun.

Tiger High Boards are in complete melt down mode..... I may be the only one of the board, but I am enjoying watching this. I just can not stand Memphis. I hope Cal is a failure at KY. Heres a link if anybody else wants to enjoy...........

It is sad. Looking at the commercial appeal website alone (comments) is sad. But at the same time, I think there would be a lot of the same from TN fans (the war of words between the Fulmerites and the Fulmernots reminds me of some bitter comments for one).

You are dead wrong. The disrespect Memphis gets goes well beyond just UT fan's opinions.

And for those that said consider the source, I fully understand that. I just wanted to throw it out there to see how right or wrong he ends up being.

I'm dead wrong? Care to back that up? Oh - so now a small minority of a Louisville fan base or former C-USA teams are bashing him on message boards as well? Like I said - FFs and the championship game appearances speak for themselves. He's earned enough respect that will probably be a HoF coach and is one of the top 5 coaches coaching today. Not too shabby.

He has just as good of a chance to win a title at Memphis than at UK - and he can win a title at Memphis in the near future. Would take several years at UK (if they decide to be patient this time around).

Well I hope Cal falls flat on his face for taking the job. I don't see that happening - but the guy just doesn't see what he's got at Memphis I guess and he may start feeling that affect in 2 years if UK is not back in the Sweet 16 atleast. UK was going to have talent whether they fired CBG or not - but I would have to say I think Cal is the better recruiter but I think CBG is every bit the coach he is (and has the edge in certain areas) in terms of defense and offensive game plans. Cal won't be as harsh and rough around the edges with everything of course like CBG was.

Dude! I never said that Calipari didn't deserve respect. I said that Memphis being disrespected goes well beyond UT fans. Chill out, tough guy!

Dude! And I said that he DOES get respect. You have yet to show me how I'm dead wrong about that. Who doesn't respect him outside of some retarded fans posting on internet message boards for what he has accomplished?
