John Calipari to KY (merged)

The CA. is now reporting (per Memphis radio) that Cal meet with the players this AM. and the players came out of the meeting saying that Cal would take the job at UK if offered. This is starting to get very interesting...

I love this comment from a Memphis fan:

I agree....I think they should go after him now. This charade that Cal plays every year is getting old now. He wont last past his first contract at UK b/c he'll lose to Pearl at UT and Pitino at UL.

If Cal does sign which seems inevitable at this point,he'd better hire him the best contract attorney(s) money can buy. Kentucky has just shown by removing their Coach Gil having only 2 years how they roll, although I here Coach Gil stands to get a Phillip Fulmer type buy-out.Cal didn't go to tourney until 5 years after arriivng at Memphis, he'd be better off staying at Memphis because I seriously doubt he gets the same talent their as he does in Memphis. Kentucky's a has-been program IMO.

Dear Kentucky,
I'm sure he's not just trying to get a raise at Memphis, which will in turn completely screw up your opportunity to jump on other coaches that might be interested in your job right now.
Sincerely,
NC State

There's no doubt, Memphis certainly offers Cal all the tools necessary to recruit the best players in the country....but you're kidding yourself if you think he can't recruit just as well at Kentucky.

Well, if he goes...there are going to be some fun UK-UT games coming up considering just how much the coaches hate each other...very nice. We'll probably get our butts handed to us more than I would like, but the games will be interesting.

I just hope Bruce competes with Cal head-to-head at UK as well as he has at Memphis. 2-2 is not too bad considering the teams Cal has had. If he does indeed go, that is.

True. And in addition, there is the possibility that he brings some of his (very solid) current memphis recruits to UK with him. That would suck.

So if Cal goes to KY where will that leave Memphis? Do you think they start a slide back towards mediocrity or will they be able to attract another heavy hitter? Do you guys see any players leaving?

There's a lot of talk (radio) about Mike Anderson taking Cals place IF he leaves. It would be very hard for another coach to do things like Cal did here, it would be a hard hit to the program. (IMO)

Screwed, they can not get anyody near the level of Cal, there is just not very many like him. Hopefully they will slide back into mediocrity, never to be heard from again. I think they will be able to keep 1 of their big recruits next year but after that I dont know. Hopefully with Cal leaving Memphis wil fall back into the days of Tic Price!!!

Gillispie over-signed as it was. For Cal to take recruits with him, multiple recruits/returning players for UK would have to leave.

lulz. Not gonna happen. Although it would be funny if Memphis went and got the last coach to whoop their ace.

Im hearing that there is a package being put together by Memphis for Cal to make him the highest paid coach in the USA. Interesting...

I'd much rather see Calipari at a tradition rich school like Kentucky than that other place.

The only bright side I see is that at least this is coming at the expense of one of our rivals. I just hate the KY fans more and more when I think about this.
