John Chavis, Call your Office.

There weren't any average D-Lines on the field tonight. LSU has a great line. We have a weak line.

I agree that our line is weak, I was just trying to be nice about it. Losing Harrell was obviously a MOSTER loss..

Certainly didn't help that McDaniel went to the league. He could have been a tremendous help this season.

We have a WEAK D-LINE?? How many sacks did we have tonight??? 2!! How many did LSU have??? 2!!! And both of those we all on Ainge.

Yes we haven't been able to run the ball this season very well at all, but that's an O-Line problem in its self.

Our DTs are terrible. Our defensive ends are good pass rushers. They play the run OK. Xavier Mitchell is really good. The other guys still have a ways to go. No one mentioned the offensive line. That is irrelevant.

chavis is a great def. coach. i hope like hell we keep him. a coach can only do so much, they cant tackle, cover a receiver on a switch pass, etc. go vols and i'll keep all three, phil, cut, and chavis:clapping:

Very true. But...they should consider TEACHING the players to do those things. That IS their job. Bench them if they don't produce effort. I know one thing, if that was an Air Force DB that back off that game winning TD pass, CFD would bag 'em, and tag 'em. He does not accept, nor tolerate laziness.

Our D-line is better than you think. We get pressure alot more that we are credited for. The reason they get knocked is because our Secondary plays off the ball so much and we get picked apart. Plus Antonio Reynolds is the one that tip the Morley pick for a TD. Our D-line is fine its the rest of our D that needs to step up.

does it really matter much in the end. we lost at home as usual to another ranked sec team, and we are out of the sec race and bcs again. like all tennessee fans are now used to saying. there is always next year for the same thing to happen again.:clapping:

See you after the next loss. :mega_shok:

LSU just put up about 250 yards rushing on us. Our D-line is not "fine". They are athletic, and they can get after the QB, but they are weak, and they can't stop the run.

I totally disagree, the D line if definitely our weakest link on defense. They're getting better though. At this pace, they'll be playing their best ball in March. :whistling:

You'll see how good our defensive line is next week when McFadden runs for 200 yards.

He's almost there now against SC at the start of the 4th. Remind me how many rushing yards did we have against SC last week not many i know. I smell trouble.

I love Chief. Cmon guys look how young our D was at the beginning of the season and we lost Inky and Harrell two of our D leaders.

I am willing to bet that we will have a top ten D next year. Chief is one of the best D coaches in college football and we are lucking to have him.

What part of "UT just doesn't have depth and defensive tackle" do you guys not understand? This is a marginally talented defense that was on the field for 42 out of 60 minutes.

I didn't feel like skimming through 12 pages, so it might have been said but....

Don't blame the D for everything. It wasn't the D's fault that the offense couldn't have a drive over 4 mins or so and force the defense back on the feild after 3 plays

Exactly . . . Our defense got killed at times, but the best defense is to have your offense on the field.

I have never understood the blind loyalty(worship even) Vol fans seem to have for Chavis. I think he is pretty good but there are some who are far better. That said, I dont think tonights game can be blamed on the defense alone. Our lack of a running game is the root-cause of our woes in my opinion. Without any running game, offensive possesions will be short if we score or if we dont. That puts your defense on the field way too long. I think the D simply ran out of gas. Hats off to LSU, they overcame many mistakes and found a way to win.

It all comes down to one 4-5 second play, stop them on 4th and 8.

get the ball back and win 24 to 21.

The defense was worn out. We couldn't do squat on offense. We hit 2 lucky passes for TD's. We can't run our way out of a wet paper bag. One question, why do we ALWAYS throw to the sidelines? If the sidelines were the endzone, we would score 500 points a game. We have no idea what the middle of the field is.

Morley is lost. He is always out of position, period. His int for a TD was thrown right to him. Larry Slade should have been sent off with Sanders, Washington, and Jimmy Ray.

Keep in mind that we lost Harrell to injury and Tony Sluggo McDaniel left early. But, Chavis is the one that said this years D could be better than last.

Bottom line, our D was on the field all night long. They were 1 play away from the win. Some of the fault lies on the offense too. Bo Pellini had Cutcliffe dialed in today. He took away all of the dink and dunk passes we throw. When we went deep, we hit 2 TD's. And, did I mention, we NEVER THROW ACROSS THE MIDDLE OF THE DAM FIELD?

We do throw to the outside a lot, but the tough thing is that, especially with a freshman QB, the middle of the field is where the misreads are.

Its a bit early to call for Chavis' job. We just need depth on the d-line. i can reflect on the game a bit more now that the heat has passed from my forehead. keep in mind these are the guys that backed up our great front 7 last year they are good not great and at times it shows. As for our Db's Larry Slade has some explaining to do. Ever wonder why our db's play so far off the reciever? That kills me get up there be physical get in his face.

I agree.......in the 42 minutes that our D was on the field, really could of used some the depth you are referring to......

Even before Ainge was hurt, it's always to the sidelines. We have a 6'7" TE that we need to drag across the middle of the field. We hardly ever throw slants.

...and as much as Cutcliffe likes the quick stuff, you'd think we'd throw more of those routes. We did hit a nice one to Cottam tonight, but I think it was a Quick Out.
