Whats your insight into Vols recruiting if DD goes and Gruden comes in. My take is 4 year rebuild. Not sure I want to go through that again and thats my main reason for wanting DD to suceed.

I think it would give this program back it's credibility and recruits would flock to this team. There is talent on this team, no rebuilding this time.

Top five classes every year. Immediate impact freshmen coming into the program. Saban will have to compete for every recruit. We have enough talent for a great coach to make noise right now. We would have media all over Knoxville. ESPN would beg to air our spring game. There is no down side.

It is only a 4 year rebuild if the wrong person is hired. Hiring the right person means a quicker rebuild.

Stop acting like a big name has to wait four years to be good.

Now thats a positive outlook. IMO not realistic but positive. Really hoping DD can turn it around but if he cant he does need to go. Just want him to be given the 4 years needed

Any coach that loses to Ky with a WR playing QB doesn't get that extra year. He has burned up his 9 lives. It's now or never.

Four years is too long to lose consecutively to Bama, UF, UGA and USCe. Throw in the UK loss and these have been dog years.

Wonder what its gonna look like after today.

Well if the game goes the way that most of us on here think it's gonna go, then there's a chance we may have more wanting to join our group.:twocents:

That said, the thread will reach 4000 posts one way or another by 7-7:30.:compute:

Interesting read, from Mr. SEC.com titled "We must be Nearing October...the Gruden talk has begun"

"Since January of 2009 when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired the coach known as Chucky, Gruden’s name has been connected to one job opening after another. Tennessee has come up before. In fact, our sources say UT officials have twice reached out to Gruden to see if he had any interest in returning to the school where he served as a grad assistant back in the mid-80s. The answer was “thanks, but no thanks.'....

Last week, word started to percolate out of Knoxville that Gruden — who is famously married to an ex-Tennessee cheerleader and who reportedly owns land in East Tennessee — had let it be known that this time he would really be interested in chatting with the Volunteers… should Derek Dooley not earn himself a fourth season. Check the messageboards and you’ll see the details. “Gruden talks to boosters,” etc, etc....

...Now, for those in Tennessee who are certain that Gruden has had contact with Volunteer boosters, we will do a little bit of speculating just for you. It’s possible that Gruden has indeed talked about coaching a team that wears orange with Jim or Jimmy Haslam, the biggest boosters at the University of Tennessee. The Haslams did just buy the NFL’s orange-clad Cleveland Browns and Gruden is an Ohio native who supposedly grew up a fan of the Browns. Current coach Pat Shurmur is just 4-15 since taking over the rebuilding job by Lake Erie. But the previous owners hired Shurmur and GM Mike Holmgren, the Haslams didn’t."

^^^^Very interesting.

I guess my question would be his interest in coaching the Browns, the article didn't mention that.

He has clearly expressed interest in the UT job should it become open.
