And you want to leave it in the hands of a coach who has a sub 500 record??????

The current coach who has at least some college level coaching experience as opposed to a fired NFL coach with zero collegiate head coaching experience? In a word? yes

If we were to see a meltdown as in last year then I would agree it is time to move on. Gruden though, I'm not so sure about.

The recruits that Gruden's name alone would pull would put us in elite status. You can dismiss his record (SuperBowl and all), but you can not dismiss the value his brand has with players. Gruden=Big time players.

"Gruden is actually several games above .500, with a Super Bowl ring."

Replace Gruden with Fulmer and Super Bowl with NC and it sounds mighty familiar doesn't it?

If we don't make a big splash hire, we're going to have a really hard time competing in today's SEC. That's why I'm not optimistic about the near-future possibilities for this program. I hope something happens to change that. I just don't see Tennessee ever competing for an SEC title without a coach who can come in and start competing for the top players.

Yeah, college football and the NFL. Practically the same thing; totally interchangeable.

why can't a coach at UT turn the program into another alabama program like saban has built? alabama doesn't have better high school talent than UT, and UT has the same or better facilities.

I definitely think Saban could have had the exact same run at UT. The trick is getting a coach of that level.

Only if you compare winning percentages in the league against those in the NCAA as somehow being equal.

So, it's not just that you would rather hire someone with college head-coaching experience than Gruden, if Dooley is fired. You seriously would rather keep Dooley than replace him with Gruden? Are you a troll?

Of course not making Fulmer far more qualified for the job.:eek:lol:

Yeah, you're really funny. :eek:lol:

I take it you didn't realize that the game passed by Fulmer. There's a reason he's not coaching anywhere right now.

Maybe we should hire Bobby Bowden. :eek:lol:

But the fact remains, UT has a coach and most of a season yet to play. The job is Dooley's to win or lose.

I don't think Cowher has any, correct? But we are comparing him to Gruden, so I will add he won a Super Bowl, and coached the Pittsburgh for 15 years without being fired or "traded."

Cowher sounds great.
The reason it's a Gruden thread and not a Cowher thread, is that we think we have at least a snowball's chance at Gruden. If he wasn't married to a former UT cheerleader, this thread would probably be about someone else.

0-12 against ranked opponents

1-8 on the road in the SEC (including loss to a Ky team

with a WR playing at the QB position)

Well there you go....start a Bill Cowher thread. Some of us may even visit and help you.
