Yeah, Montrell isn't a troll and brings alot of good insight to the boards. He's definitely a realist and doesn't see the football world through orange tinted glasses. The money excuse is absolutely bogus, if Gruden is hired, donations will go through the roof, and keeping Dooley with constant 7-5 seasons will cost the university more money than buying him out and getting a home run hire (attendance will plummet, merchandise sales will nose dive, season tickets will be sent back, limited TV exposure).
Right on..And i definitely believe our prominent Boosters would make sure the money was there if that was the last obstacle. And imagine the recruiting he could do here. I mean the moms would love him. He is a Super Bowl Coach, would have the knowledge and ability to convince kids he knew what it would take to get them to the next level. He could potentially be our Saban. I could never pull for UT to lose but if a bad season guaranteed us getting him it would help cushion the blow.
I agree that it's way too premature to be talking about coaching changes, at this stage in the season. We did lead the game nearly 3/4 of the way, so that tells me we are on the verge of turning the corner.
However, if we stink it up against UGA and Bama, I would personally like to see Mr Gruden's phone ring, with Mr. Hart on the other end...asking what it will take. Outside of him and possibly Tressell or Gary Patterson, I don't know that it would be worth the turnover in staff once again.
I think Gruden would be such a splash hire that recruiting would spike instead of regress. I also think there is so much talent on this team, that IF Gruden seriously wanted to coach again, he'd have to be tempted at the opportunity to hit the ground running...instead of your typical rebuild.
Basically, Dooley helped restock the cupboards, but couldn't coach what he had... and in steps one who can.
Not to mention he could assemble an all star staff in a heartbeat, ace recruiters and proven coaches, add that with TN's recruiting budget, gameday atmosphere, and facilities, he would have top 100 players flocking to knoxville. Gruden would be a machine at Tennessee, he would cause a HUGE power shift in the SEC.
Balderdash.
A. He's never recruited before. He couldn't possibly learn how to do it now. Too complex.
2. We can't afford him. Our budget is 1.7m, and there's no way that number could increase through private donations. This means that, of the 11 public universities in the SEC, our coaching salary will rank 11th. You will believe this because I say so, regardless of how utterly absurd it is.
III. Besides, we wouldn't want him anyway. He only won that Super Bowl because he was using Tony Dungy's players.

he's never coming to tn and never will. first of all, we can't afford him. secondly, he's not interested. so stop already.
This is true.Believe me, Even if it is a pipe dream...If Gruden was somehow hired by UT this fan base across the country would go completely and totally INSANE!....UT could pay his entire contract in a couple of years with the income they would get from merchandise sells alone...He would be extremely popular...With his personality his TV show would be the highest ranked show for that time slot in the state of Tennessee...He would cost a bundle but if you crunch the numbers it would appear to be a win win situation for both parties.

LOL @ the budget being 1.7 million...
Even if your number is true (and it's not) a budget is called a budget for a reason.
I assume you handle finances at home, no? You take money out, and put it where you need it. Rinse and repeat as needed. Nothing a budget hearing can't handle if it were needed. And again - it's not.
LMFAO @ winning with Tony Dungy's players.
You do realize a GM builds NFL teams? Not the ****ing head coach. Jesus.
By your standards Gruden beat the team he BUILT to win the Superbowl.
GTFO.
