KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Former Super Bowl champion head coach Jon Gruden, who started his coaching career at the University of Tennessee as a graduate assistant from 1986-87, will be a featured speaker at the 2012 Tennessee Football Coaching Clinic, which runs from April 12-14.
I had forgotten about this: Jon Gruden To Speak At UT Football Clinic - UTSPORTS.COM - University of Tennessee Athletics
He was obviously checking out the facilities and getting prepared for the job offer. Gruden sees and knows all.
Speaking of which, I heard that Gruden once yelled at an opposing player during a football game and caused the player to fumble, true story.
Since wild speculation is the order of the day, er uhm year, if we see the meltdown some predict, and if Dooley is fired, and if UT were to throw out 5+ million to hire Gruden, what do you see him doing next year with the defense to keep himself off his own hot seat with boosters and AD who would then be all in on a "mega money contract." Perhaps a better way to ask the question would be whom do you propose he hire as Def. Coordinator or would you want him to keep Sunseri?
Gruden and Sunseri have a connection from their time at Pitt. They reportedly know and like each other. I really don't see Sunseri remaining DC unless Gruden was unable to bring in a Raheem Morris, or some other NFL caliber DC. I use that name only because others here have suggested it.
I certainly could see Sunseri back coaching LB's if that were to happen.
I contend he could lose out and still be on the sidelines at Kentucky, but the decision about a change will be made before Nov 1. IF he beats Ms State, splits USCjr and KY, then wins the last 4 then he is more than likely good for another year....and I would be ok if that were to happen. Anything is possible no matter how improbable it may be.
Thing is, we could also have a budget surplus on a national level in 6 months, doesn't mean it will happen. Failed leaders are failed leaders whether it be business, sports, or politics. Failure doesnt taste any different based on the field of expertise....or lack thereof.
Did you mean to say, "splits USCjr and AL?"
KY is the last game, so winning the last four games would include KY. Also, if we lose to KY this year, to me, that would void everything else. Only a win over Bama, maybe, would be enough to compensate for a consecutive loss in football to KY.
