Reading comprehension 101.

Oskie: "created the program"

Did the VFL program exist pre-Dooley??

Thanks for playing along.

Sorry, man. I'm not familiar with what the VFL Program is, so when I first read that, after 1am, I was thinking about us being "VFLs" as fans. If you would have written "VFL" and "Program" together, I would have understood you better. This thread, all several thousand posts of it, are about the best way to win football games.

That all sounds great, but losing football games is eventually going to trump what happens off the field. That's just the way it is. Coach Dooley could grant two dozen wishes for Make-A-Wish between now and Saturday, and that won't stop the seat from getting hotter if we lose to MSU.

Nice verbiage JoeKyle, but nothing in that tells me Gruden would succeed as an SEC coach. Performance of a professional athlete is an entirely different variable than the performance of a 19-21 year old kid who thinks he can play in the SEC because he was a star in HS.

You are precisely right. We don't KNOW if Gruden would be successful in the SEC. I grant you that.

However, my problems lies with the fact that you assume that a person with success at a higher level shouldn't give us more confidence than a person with mediocrity at a lower level.

We obviously can't know--we can only use conjecture and hypothesize from our sample size. Gruden's sample size shows a SB win at the highest level, and Dooley's shows us a losing record, both overall and in the SEC.

And, of course, the variables are different from the NFL and college. I agree with that.

But, I would rather take a chance on the higher-ceiling with Gruden, than continue taking our chances on what we've seen so far from Dooley.

It is a term used by the players that has had the same values since Reggie White started saying "VFL". Yeah , Dooley created a job for someone to run the program officially. But he did not invent the term or what it stood for. And to be honest , it's blown out of proportion by the fans. It's great for the players to learn about life and how to deal with issues , but it's not going to save anyone's job. Just like Dooley said this program will be here long after him , so will this. It's year 3 and it's time to be judged on what his record on the field is. What win has he had here that makes him the man for the job? Cincinnati? NC State? And as for wanting to lose , that's bs. I hope Dooley wins every single game on the schedule. I've wanted him to win every game we have played since he got here. Same for every coach before him. Problem is , he hasn't given anybody a reason to believe he can win a game that matters. Many have been waiting and given the man the time he deserves. It's time to show this fan base something positive. And moral victories are not the measuring stick at The University of Tennessee.

Top 5 wins: 2012 NCSU, 2011 Cincy, 2010 UK, 2011 Vandy, 2010 Ole Miss. And, that Ole Miss team had a losing record. A win at MSU on Saturday would become the top win.

I feel the same way about lackluster head coaches from the WAC, yet here we are.

If we see a meltdown now, your argument concerning Coach Dooley will hold a great deal more validity. We will not have to wait much longer for an answer. I agree it is time to see it on the field.

i am hearing that we get Toney Dungy for the vfl progam a mentor, john chavis for defense, and Gruden will be the head coach. and Dooley stays on to coach the special teams. 2013 will be a dynasty year.

ARE YOU F***ING KIDDING ME!!!

NOOOOO!!!

I can't even laugh about that one man.

If you don't see it by now, you're not likely to ever.
