Watching House Hunters on HGTV, and this episode is shot in Roatan,Honduras..They are scuba diving and I thought of Jay, even though that's not where he is.:cray:

G, I live in Bama, It's not going to happen. Doesn't matter what the differences in the towns are like. Saban has total control of his football team and everything that goes along with it. He can do anything in the state of Alabama he wants to. I mean that people down here have stickers on their cars of a Superman symbol that says,"The Coach" underneath it. He will not leave Bama for any other college job.

I am well aware of the popularity of Saban in the state of Alabama. I work with 4 Alabama Alumni who live in Birmingham, sick of their crap. I say you make him tell you no and you keep adding more numbers on the check till he says yes.

He also said he was not going to be the coach at Alabama and we see how that worked out.

I'm just trying to wrap my mind around everyone's infatuation with Gruden? While the idea sounds good, I'm just not sure I see where all you are coming from?

I have compiled some data to back up my theory.

1. Gruden's HC record is 95-81. A .540 winning %

2. His first 2 years as HC of the Raiders, he went .500

3. He did win a Super Bowl in his first year at TB, but
how much of that success was because of what
Tony D left behind?

4. He then proceeded to go 7-9 and 5-11 the next 2
years (How long will Vol fans put up with that?)

5. He later posted a 4-12 season (and this?).

6. His record as HC at Tampa Bay was 57-55, .509%

7. Has he ever had to recruit against SEC teams, or
really ever had to recruit at all?

8. He was only at Tennessee for 1 season as a
graduate assistant. I understand he met his wife
here and owns land in E. TN, but what the he!! does
that matter?

All I hear is the "Grudenites" harping on Dooley's record, when Gruden's record isn't all that great. Maybe I don't see what all of you see, so please, correct me where I'm wrong. (and yes, I know Dooleys record is 31-36, sub
.500, but this is not a defending Dooley thread)

He's not leaving Alabama for another college coaching job. Not enough Zero's, they would only add another to it.

Spurrier is 67, your point?

If you think 61 years old is to old to rebuild another college team it sure as hell is to old to rebuild an NFL team especially since people like to point out he struggled in the NFL.

His age has nothing to do with it, stop fooling yourself. The likelihood of Gruden being hired and staying here any length of time. If I had to choose between Gruden or Saban leading our program the next 5 years, Saban wins everytime.

Made my point after I posted his age. You miss it?

But Gruden is a QB guru. He said so.

The ring and the notoriety from his TV exposure would presumably attract big recruits.

The question is, would he be willing to put in all the work required to land them, and would his coaching skills measure up.

That is my cliff note version.

What were Steve Spurrier and Nick Sabans records in the NFL? There is a lot more parody than in college. Any top tier team can schedule in 6 or 7 wins that a monkey with a clipboard could win. It's those extra 5-6 that separate the creme from the butter.

I am not at all convinced he is coming to UT or that there has been anything more than fan talk about him specifically but one can dream lol.

Please try to pay attention, this is not about Tony D. I only used him for historical record.

His last team at TB went 9-7. His record at Indy was 85-27, so what's your point again?

Gruden Bucs, Dungy Bucs. Really simple.

"3. He did win a Super Bowl in his first year at TB, but

Tony D left behind?
" Quote from you.

At least remember what you posted.

OV, in my 50 years of life and the negotiating I have been a part of, the money has to be right and the pitch needs to be spot on. You sell Saban on the big picture with enough money until his vision clears up. By not approaching him it is an automatic NO, make him tell you face to face numerous times.

If I was Hart and knew Nick like he should, this would solidify Hart as a serious AD.

Ok, go back 15 years and see what Super Bowl winning teams records were the year before. Except for Pittsburgh and New England, I think you'll be surprised.

If Saban does decide to leave for another job it will be in the NFL b/c he still has to prove that he can coach in that league.:wink2:

LOL, so help me to understand something. Saban will have to prove himself in the NFL and yet you are certain Gruden can coach in the SEC? I for one would love to read your rationale behind that one.
